Hi

A have a series of 360deg photos that I would like to flatten. They
are of a tunnel and are taken approximately at in the middle. I would
like to flatten them as if they have been un-rolled with the centre of
the tunnel in the middle and then join them to-gether to form a
complete image map of the tunnel. I currently do not have PTGUI but
will be downloading the trial version. I have also uploaded a sample
file (p10 80.953m.jpg). Any help would be gratefully recived.

Many thanks

Have you tried a Photoshop plugin called Flexify 2? Do a Google search
for more info ;)

I'm not sure if I understand correctly what it is you are trying to
do. I used PTGui to "unroll" your panorama in the way I guess you
want, and I assume you have a number of these that you want to join
together to form a continuous image of the whole length of the
tunnel. The image is in the Files section as P10+80-cyl.jpg. There
are obvious problems caused by parallax, which will prevent the images
aligning properly.

What you have done is pretty much what I am after, I know that there
will be all sorts of issues with parallax etc but each imgage should
have exactly the same parameters. My next step is to have a go with
PTgui myself, any pointers on how to 'un-roll' these images?

Many Thanks

Tim

Tim, What I did was:

1. Load the image into PTGui
2. Cancel the Camera/Lens data panel that appears, and select Advanced
mode (button far right)
3. Select Lens Settings tab, set lens type equirectangular, fov 360.
4. Display the Panorama Editor window (ctrl+E)
5. From the Projection menu, select Spherical: 360x180 Equirectangular
6. Click on the Numerical Transform icon (123) and set pitch to 90 in
the panel that appears
7. Click Apply. That rotates the image to bring the zenith down to
the centre of the window
8. Then reset pitch parameter back to 0 and set roll to 1.
9. Click the Apply button repeatedly to straighten the line of the
tunnel (8 times, say)
Set -1 if you want to go backwards.
10.Reduce the image height to 100 degrees using the slider on the
right (angle in bottom left)
11.Select cyclindrical projection (from Projection menu or the
Cylindrical icon).

Note that you can drag the image in the Panorama Editor window using
the mouse, and rotate it by dragging with the right button held down.
You can display a grid on the image by dragging the little triangle on
the bottom edge of the image to the right.

That should get you started.

Many thanks for that, tried it and it works OK, looks pretty good if I
keep near to the original resolution. It also looks like it will do
all sorts of other stuff that would be useful.

All the best

Tim
