Is it possible to include the MEIKE MK 6.5 mm f / 2.0 lens in the database?

I have had excellent results, with this lens sewing only 4 photos and version 11 identifies them, almost perfectly, but it would be good to give recognition to this type of manual lens.

Those who have tried it and that Tips want to contribute ... !!!

Hi,

Yes I'd be happy to include it. Could you make a set of images available
for download?

I would like to support this request! I have placed a sixpack of JPGs here. The link is valid for a week.

Hi Klaus,

Thanks! The lens will be added to the next beta.

The lens is different from all lenses I've seen so far, has a fisheye
factor of around -0.85 so the projection is somewhat like orthographic,
with compressed edges.

Hi Joost

There had been a discussion in the PT4Pano blog recently. Quite similiar results 😊.

Hi Joost

I had a question about adding this lens to the database. In the beta will it only select this lens if it is detected in the EXIF data? Or is there a way to force-select the lens? I am using images that I have taken from a video and so they do not have EXIF data attached. When bringing them into PTGui, I can select wide angle fisheye manually but considering the uniqueness of the lens, it would be great to be able to manually select the Meike 6.5mm to correct for this weird lens profile

Thanks!

When bringing them into PTGui you should get the Focal length dialog.
Enter the focal length (6.5) then you should get the Meike in the Lens
type droplist.

To alter this later go to Project Assistant tab, under "Set up panorama"
click the link after "Lens:" to get the Focal length dialog. Proceed as
above.

Joost, this is somehow counter-intuitive. Wouldn't it be possible to
show the whole Lens type list if there is nothing entered under Focal
length? Also show lenses near the value (f.e. show the Meike if only 6
was entered).

It is also a bit strange that I have to enter 6.5 to get the Meike, but
it is displayed as 6.6 later (on Project Settings tab). And it is even
stranger, that I don't get what I selected earlier if I click that link.

Thanks Erik! That did the trick.

Hi Erik,

The focal length is still needed for the zoom fisheye lenses. For the
non zooms it I agree, it could be made less critical.

I mean the process of choosing the right lens if there is no EXIF (like
for manual lenses). Even for zoom lenses I'd prefer to first choose the
lens, then the focal length. Think of the Samyang lenses, that are
marketed with different focal length (under different names).

The way to reset the lens to a known one after a project has been
optimized with a generic type (or imported from an older version) is
also hard to find. I'd not expect to have to click on EXIF if I know my
lens has no EXIF data. I'd expect that under Lens Database (where
currently only the user created database is stored).

With different focal length? Which lens is that?

I think the Opteka 6.5mm f3.5 fisheye is a version of the Samyang 8mm fisheye, which in any case PTGui optimizes to approximately 9mm.

The Samyang 8mm f/3.5 is also marketed as Opteka 6.5mm and Vivitar 7mm
according to Michel Thoby:
http://michel.thoby.free.fr/SAMYANG/Early%20test%20report.html
But the reviewers don't agree on the Opteka:

Interesting, I wasn't aware of this.

Now that I look through my lens parameters, the SevenArtisans 7.5mm
f/2.8 too suspiciously has the same projection as the Samyang 8mm f/3.5
and 8mm f/2.8:

f=8.3mm, fisheye factor 0.35.

So this might be a re-brand too, or perhaps a different build using the
same optics.
