Hi guys!

I've been using PTGui for 360 videos since 2013. Never ran into any problem except for now.

I'm trying to create a stitching template for a 7 GoPro rig for Mistika VR. But I get impossible parallax errors. No matter what I work on my way on, it only pushes errors further or don't solve the issue.

I've been trying to add control point, optimize the panorama, mask etc.

My first question regards the settings for GoPro 4 Black Edition. With this new PTGui version, there are a lot more parameters that can be filled for the camera lens and captor. I've gathered those infos on the Internet but it doesn't seem to solve the problem. And Full Frame Fisheye does not either.

What am I missing? It's my first time using this PTGui version, it might come from me!

I've attached the pictures for you to see!

I would really like to understand my mistakes as I want to stitch old GoPro videos and need to create Mistika VR templates for this :)

Thanks!

You should create your template using images shot in a large venue such as a church or hall where parallax is not an issue.  However, you will inevitably run into parallax problems shooting close subjects because of the separation of the lenses. The attached animated gif reveals the large parallax present in your sample images.  PTGui will not generally produce perfectly stitched panoramas from such images.

Well, that animated gif doesn't seem very animated. I'm sure I've done ones before that work.  I'll try attaching the file instead of inserting it inline with the text.

Attached animated gif files don't work either.  I will have to supply a download link instead: https://www.sendspace.com/file/axweh9 .  Sorry about that.

Hi John,

Thank you for taking time to answer and for the gif attempt. Downloaded it!

I see exactly what you mean. I'm well aware of parallax issues since I've been dealing with them for the past 5 years. I know the closer you get, the more trouble you get! However, I was very surprised because I've stitched similar videos before and only had so many problems with the latest version of PTGUI. This is why I was looking into the settings. The close stitch are not perfect but they are fine and can be corrected in AE afterwards. Here it's just chaos :)

I've tried with another stitching software and I get much better results. I guess we'll stick to this. We were hoping to restitch 500+ old GoPros videos with Mistika and PTGui, we'll go for the other solution.

Thanks for your help!

Celine
