does PTGui create hidden files?

After 17 hours of PTGui working to build a pano, I had to force quit
because the app was not responding. I now see that the boot disk is
six gigs lighter in free disk space, and I cannot find the new file(s)
that takes up this space.

Does PTGui create hidden files? If so, how do I find them so that I
can delete them? I'm running OS 10.4.11 (Mac).

open ptgui, go to prefs, files&folders and look what temp folder you
have configured. quit ptgui, open the folder in the finder and clean
it out manually. this should give you many many gigabytes of space
back :-)

I tried your recommendation, Joergen. No file/folder destination was
designated in my prefs. It looks like the default might be Documents
under my user account folder. Nonetheless, I didn't find any ptgui
files there. Also, the sum of all of the folder sizes on my boot disk
is gigs less than what the Info panel says is used on the disk which
leads me to suspect ptgui created hidden files.

I just tried to figure out where the default temp file repository is,
and I couldn't find it either (but I also never run ptgui without
configuring a temp folder).

maybe when joost comes back, he might tell us where they are.

By default the Mac version of PTGui writes temp files to the /tmp
folder. This folder is not accessible from Finder, you would need to
open a Terminal window to access it.

But the /tmp folder is emptied upon boot, so a reboot of your mac should
make the space available again.

If you want to be able to access the temp files, create a dedicated
folder for at and point PTGui to it in Preferences -> Folders&Files.

To access any folder in the Finder, visible or not...

Finder > Go > Go to Folder...

Type the path.

Thanks, everyone. Rebooting released the six gigs as free disk space
once again. I've now defined a PTGui temp folder. And as Andrew says,
the tmp folder is accessible through 'Go to Folder'.
