hi

i was jsut wondering if its possible to do away with ghost images?

My term ghost images = when we took photo at very crowded places with
alot of people moving around. The stitch images will be blurish...
things like that?

I using D90, sigma 10-20mm. NN4.
2 rounds, 8 shoots per round.
at 45 up, 30 down. + 1 nadiar shoot.

+ i am shooting with bracketing.

There will be a lot of time lapse between the first and other.

Is there any way on Ptgui to reduce that?

Thanks in advance.

Ghosting and floating body parts are the biggest issues when doing
panoramas with people in them. You need to use PTGui's masking
feature during stitching.

You will have much better results if you shoot RAW instead of
bracketing .jpg.

I also take more than 1 picture at each "view".
http://www.dlsphoto.net/Tutorials/Crowd_Demo/CrowdDemo.htm You
sometimes have to combine several images from the same position prior
to stitching in order to remove ghosting. It is more art than science.

I endorse Dennis's reply that you need to use PTGui's great Mask tool
and that you need to take more shots.

I have just finished a set of a lot of panoramas in crowded rooms and
found the Mask tool invaluable.
I am using a D3100, which is not a lot different to a D90, with a
Sigma 4.5mm (full frame) fisheye and a Nikon 10.5mm and found that to
get best use of the Mask tool you need a good overlap and I have gone
for around 50% which is 4 around with the 4.5mm and 8 around with the
10.5mm so with your Sigma 10-20mm.
I actually go round three times in such an area so take 12 shots (each
at 90° intervals) with the 4.5mm and 24 shots (each at 45°) with the
10.5mm fisheye, so I can select the best sequence of shots for each
lens because you cannot always see what everyone is doing when you are
shooting.
This does appear to be an area for discussion as I find I usually take
more around than the generally recommended amount, but I find it works
for me.

I also have a Sigma 10-20mm but used it in crowded places so will have
to experiment a bit.

I hope this is of some help, Hugh.

Shooting HDR, ie with bracketing, is not very suitable for moving objects, like people, trees in the wind etc.
With crowds of people I often shoot 2 or more shots in each position, or shoot 2 rounds of 4+zenith - as fast as possible.
Then I get a good selection to pick from.
I then render to a layered psd file.
In PS I blend manually by editing the layer masks of each layer, to get rid of half/double people.
And there's often some final editing to be done too.
I haven't used the masks in PTGui, but I guess they could work quite well too, especially now that we can preview details of blending in the Panorama Editor.

Expect to get some "twins", which is usually better than ghosts ;)
