If you have multiple GPUs, 'Automatic' uses a simple heuristic to find
the one deemed most suitable, based on the type and amount of GPU
memory. It doesn't actually benchmark them.
No, the memory is used only while stitching. PTGui will keep data in the
GPU until the memory limit is reached. From then it will start flushing
data between GPU memory and regular RAM. And eventually to disk if
regular RAM runs full.
