In looking at the differences between the Base and Pro versions "Automatic optimum seam placement" is the only thing I feel like I might "need" in the Pro version, but I can't find info on what it does to know if it's worth spending 2x as much on.  Would love it if someone could explain.

I tried the Base and Pro Trials on the same images fwiw.

As an example if it helps this was made with the Base version, there's clearly some seams but I also shot free hand. https://shaneam.github.io/360/FourTalks/Full%20360.htm

Optimum Seam Placement tries to route the seams around objects. This is
particularly useful for scenes with objects as f.e. people and vehicles,
but also moving leaves etc. that move between two adjacent images.
Without optimum seams PTGui will place a seam in the middle of the
overlap area, with no respect to objects having moved between shots,
cutting them in half. More info on

in my personal opinion optimum seams together with the zero overlap
blender is the most useful improvement in PTGui.

Hi Shane,

Here's a screenshot of optimum seam placement in action:

It can be useful in busy scenes. Also, if parallax cannot be avoided
completely, optimum seams can make the stitching errors less noticeable.
For landscapes it's less useful.

You could also just purchase the standard version; you can always
upgrade your license to the Pro version later. If you do this within one
year after purchasing, you pay just the price difference between the two
versions.

Kind regards,
