I was looking forward to turning my spherical panoramas into Panini-type
projections that would look better printed or on a flat screen without
VR.
I've checked the help and the tutorials and pulled down the various menus
but
can't find how to do this.
I'd like to start from past 2:1 equirectangular projections and have PTgui
turn
out the new projections... I can do it with the Panini software but it
would
be convenient to be able to use this option within PTgui.
So, er, HELP!

It's named Vedutismo in PTGui and can be found on pano editor or
Panorama Settings tab. If you want Panini you should set the Horizontal
compression to about 0.65 on Panorama Settings tab. On pano editor there
is a button "Projection settings" which enables a slider where you can
alter this value continuously.

There is a short description on the beta page (scroll down):

The tutorials and help files apparently are not updated yet.
Thank you, Erik. I found it, and have played with it profitably. In some
cases the difference in perspective is more subtle than in others. A
fascinating new tool... I think I see our "reality" as more "virtual"
than I used to. As a photographer I was for long dedicated to the
photo realism approach, and eschewed digital manipulation. But my
infatuation with panoramas has largely weaned me from that attitude.
I still aim for the most realist "look" though, even though that
look may be the product of quite complex digital processing!

It's a 8.1 (beta) feature...
