Hello,

I'm encountering a bug while trying to stitch on an M1 Macbook Air

It seems images aren't getting processed correctly and I'm receiving the following error output window over and over with checkerboards appearing on the majority of source images and the control point routine seems to fail:

Assertion failed: TjnResponsiveImageScaler.cpp, line 22

This is happening with both jpegs and Sony raw .arw, merging bracketed exposures in true HDR mode about 8 out of 10 attempts to merge and stitch.

Apologies if this has been flagged before. At a quick glance I didn't see any reports.

Best,

Trey Harrell

Hi Trey,

That's weird; could you make a set of images available that allow me to
reproduce the problem?

Kind regards,

For what it's worth:

- I could stitch fine on an M1 Macbook Pro (16GB) already (quite large project: About 400 TIFF input images resulting in 20GP / 30GB output image).
- I believe I have seen this error message you mention on an Intel Mac before (but not on an M1 yet). However, I don't recall why or when I saw it.

So I'll have to take some new images for the test as the ones I was stitching are under NDA. Will get some safe ones available shortly.

It's possible that error is coming from trying to stitch items in Google Drive (file stream client) -- the directory is flagged for offline but I've noticed some strange caching/performance hit shenanigans since the latest update.

Will test a bit more this weekend and send in a "safe" image catalog once I'm able to take one.

Thanks!

Yes I think that's it; the assertion also suggests corrupt image data is
loaded from disk.

Could you try copying from your google drive folder to the desktop, and
loading from there?

Hi Joost,

It does appear to be the new Google Drive filestream client, specifically the caching mechanism for "offline files" that stores the files ~/Library/Application Support/Google/DriveFS while representing them to the OS under /Volumes/GoogleDrive/

The error will occur if the individual images haven't been loaded up/viewed in another app beforehand (Photoshop, Preview). This is consistent with incredibly slow file copies etc in and out of "locally stored" directories as well. I simply think their caching is really suspect on the Mac.

If I've looked at each image individually in another app before trying to stitch, PTGui behaves fine, same as having files stored on the desktop.

So... resolved, I guess :)

Best,

Trey
