My PC Windows machine has failed (I think it may have been sabotaged by a disappointed hacker). I got increasingly urgent emails threatening to publicize videos of me taken by my computer camera while masturbating to porn. I ignored these not only because I don't watch porn but also because there is no camera installed upon which such videos could have been taken even if I did.

I am thinking of upgrading my ancient iPad Air to the just-released current version using the M1 chip. I also need a panorama viewer program. Does anyone know whether my favorite WIndows viewer, FSP, has a version that can be installed on iPad/M1? I see there is a MAC OS version but I can’t see how to install the file offered . Will this be compatible? I know MAC OS programs run on MACs featuring the M1 chip but don’t know about iPad compatibility.

If that is currently unclear, please recommend me something that WILL work on my iPad. I am hoping I won’t need to buy another PC.

I’ve been looking for something myself, while waiting for helpful suggestions (just as well, so far) and came across Spherualizer. This works quite well but unless you have split up your panoramas into separate, clearly recognizable directories (“Croatia 2017” and “Eiji’s wedding” etc.) it takes ages to scroll through undifferentiated collections like mine. Sigh. This means hours of rather tedious sorting before I can get much use out of it.

Spherualizer will accept all files you tell it to open, unlike the Google photo app, which kindly attaches a spin mark to identify panoramas that it recognizes but will not display properly—as panoramas—those that it doesn’t. For instance, any panos that I have edited are no longer recognized… Otherwise it would be quite useful—more so than Apple’s own, which doesn’t recognize panos at all.

Neither Sphzr nor Google can straighten horizons where necessary. ReShoot will do that nicely, and provides a pretty exhaustive set of defaults for processing video panoramas. Until recently this was a free app but is now priced quite reasonably. I bought it but noted sadly that the square grids so useful for straightening, etc., cannot be dispensed with, so it isn’t much use as a viewer. I’ll be checking more of its functions once I have a Theta X1, which is obviously intended for both photo AND video-oriented users. At my age and with poor eyesight I intend to rely on the one-shot panoramas the X1 apparently does so well.

Forgive the rambling. Another age-related development…

Update on Spherualizer

I am pleased to report that this panorama viewer has just had a major upgrade and now works smoothly and effectively in an aging IPad Air.

I strongly recommend it.

Another app worth looking at is iPano. It hasn't been updated in 3 years, but it still works on iPadOS 15.4 and iOS 15.4. It can accept panos up to 16384 x 8192. (anything larger will be resized) Compared to Spherualizer, it has no iCloud or Apple TV support. But images can be sorted into different folders, and zoomed further in and out.

Thanks, I’ll look into it.

We recently released an update to amuz, that includes full screen iPad scenes, along with the iPhone, and Android.   While amuz is curated, the experience may be worth a look.
