Hey everyone,

I'm stitching 360 videos with Mistika VR and have up until this point used Autopano to create the templates for each video. Sadly, I get a lot of jitter along the seamline in Mistika VR and I'm hoping that PTGui may deliver better results. There are some tutorials by SGO/Mistika VR about how to create a stitch in PTGui, however, they use a different 360 camera system (Freedom360) in the tutorial, so the values that need to be entered in the various PTGui pop-ups are different. Does anybody know which values to enter in PTGui to get a basic stitch with Insta360 Pro 2 footage?

Any pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Eric

You mean the focal length etc.? You don't really need that, PTGui will
optimize it for you. See https://ptgui.com/support.html#6_3

Furthermore PTGui 12 has a preset for the Insta360 Pro (but I don't know
about the Pro 2). If the images contain correct EXIF data it should be
loaded automatically. If not, cancel the first dialog you get on image
loading (Camera sensor) and enter 1 in the Focal Length one. Then you
get a list of possible Lens Types.

However, the outlined procedure in the above link should give you a
starting point.

Hi Erik,

sorry for the long delay and thanks for your help. We only shoot 360 videos, so there is no EXIF data available in the reference photos (they're created by Mistika VR from the videos). Every year or so, I try PTGui because I really want it to work for us, mainly because I want to have an alternative for when Autopano Giga stops to work. However, every time I get stuck at the point of the camera lens parameters. It would be really helpful if there were a tutorial or a screenshot of the values that need to be entered for the Insta360 Pro 2. It's a pretty common camera and since Mistika VR allows round-tripping to PTGui and back, it seems obvious to make this workflow easy for the Mistika VR user that wants a better stitch. Yet, at that point of hand-over, the user is left in the dark. How to use PTGui as an editor to create a stitch that Mistika VR can use is nowhere to be found. At least, I have not been able to find this info or been able to figure out how to use PTGui with an insta360 Pro 2. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If it's helpful, I am happy to make a connection to SGO (Mistika VR parent company).

Cheers,

Eric

Hi Eric,

Attached is a project for a set of 6 images from the Insta 360 Pro 2. If
you post a set of images I'd be happy to give them a try.

The camera suffers from large parallax, you might get reasonable results
outdoors, but indoors there will be significant stitching errors.

Hi Joost, thank you very much for supplying those files and sorry that I have not responded sooner. We do not have an active Mistika VR subscription at the moment because we always work in batches. However, I will give these files a try as soon as we have a subscription again some time in the new year.

Until then, enjoy your Christmas break and talk to you next year!

Best wishes,

Eric
