Hi Kieran,

The DNG format is open, and PTGui can read DNG files.
But keep in mind that DNG is not a true image format but a 'digital
negative' which still should be converted into an actual image. The
settings you are referring to are specific to the raw converter, and in
case of Adobe the conversion algorithms are proprietary.

...which means: don't do it. You loose almost all benefits of shooting
raw if you use it directly in PTGui. PTGui can not do what a decent raw
converter does...

Or according to the DNG's I create within lightroom, not at all.

It would be nice to save a step from coverting into jpgs/tiffs just to have to dump them when finished.

converter does…

One possibility with DNG is instead of PTGUI using dcraw to convert, use the full-sized preview embedded in the DNG to stitch with. I can't say I'd ever do it myself, but I do use those previews for a lot otherwise (generating thumbnails and previews for web apps that match the look of the processed DNG in Adobe apps).

In any case, I think it's a bad idea to use any form of RAW in the stitcher, but I can *kinda* sorta imagine a workflow where it might make sense… for instance, doing a rough stitch on your DNG library first, before selecting which images to use for the final stitch (or which panos to keep or discard); then processing the selected DNGs to TIFF and re-stitching. Seems like a wasted effort if you've got enough horsepower and a small volume, but perhaps with a large volume of captures, in the field, this would make sense.

I'll look into that.

This won't work since dcraw (used by PTGui to read raw images) doesn't
deliver the same image sizes as other raw converters. Hence you can't
simply replace the raw files in your project with the developed TIFFs.
You would have to redo the complete stitch, control point generation and
all. Moreover you don't save time since dcraw isn't faster than most
other raw converters.
