I am a user of Autopano and due to closure of Kolor I am looking to an alternative for panorama stitching.
I am doing some test with PTGui that seems to me a suitable alternative but I was not able to found an automatic ghosts removal functionality as the one in Autopano.
It is my mistake or really all the ghosts removal has to be done manually in PTGui?
Thanks for your suggestions
Marco

Hi Marco,

Indeed, currently this has to be done manually, using the Mask tool. See:
http://www.ptgui.com/examples/masktutorial.html

Or you can install SmartBlend as a blending plugin in PTGui, see:
http://www.ptgui.com/plugins.html

Automatic ghost removal is planned for a future PTGui version.

Hi Joost,

after some testing I can say that PTGui is a very good alternative for me to the "dead" AutopanoGiga from Kolor.
PTGui is better in several aspect, but the missing of an automatic ghosts removal tool is really a major limitation, especially if you are shooting panorama in situation with many people in the scene.
I have tested SmartBlend as you suggested but it doesn't seems to me to be a solution, it really doesn't remove ghosts and also is not almost not usable with large gigapixels panos.

Have you any forecast when you the planned automatic ghosts removal tool will be available for PTGui?
There is anything I can do to convince you to speed up this development?

Best rregards
Marco

Hi Marco,

I'm aware of this! You don't need to convince me, this one is among the
highest priority feature requests on my list.

Development takes a lot of time, and it always takes longer than
expected so I never provide forecasts or roadmaps.

Kind regards,

You talk about HDR ghosts or overlap ghosts? For the latter I'd suggest
to use photoshop Auto Blend Layers. Save as a layered photoshop document
for this. For sphericals use my Auto Blend 360 script, which works
around the 360° border (which photoshop doesn't on it's own):

Hi Erik

I am interested to remove overlap ghosts and I hope an AI solution for ghosts removal as the one in AutopanoGiga will be available for PTGui in a near future.

Meanwhile your AutoBlend 360 is working well and seems to be the best solution I have found for PTGui.

BUT it is not working well in batch mode!!

When you run your action on a layered PSD panoramas from Bridge selecting Photoshop|Batch,  the action opens the Photoshop dialog "Preferences|Units & Rulers" for each panorama layer it is going to process and a hit on return key is requested to continue. That make it useless in batch mode.

Any suggestion about fixing this issue?

Thanks
Marco

This should not happen. The script first saves the preferences, then
sets units to pixels and switches off dialogs.

I can reproduce it here, so there's nothing you do wrong. Could by I
found the culprit already. Stay tuned...
