GALA WORKDAY in HARTWOOD

Meet at 10am in the upper mansion parking lot off Saxonburg Blvd.
We'll be working to get rid of muddy spots and to improve drainage.
Tools will be provided, bring work gloves and water. Ride/hike after.

Then, party at the Cabana at JD's Pub; FREE pizza compliments of the
Friends of Hartwood Council, and drink special compliments of JDs.

DR J TRAIL UPDATE: Thanks to 40 folks who came out over the weekend to
the PTAG IMBA Trail Care Crew Class and workday!

The Subaru-IMBA Trail Care Crew, Steve and Morgan Lommele, began their
visit Thursday with a review of two trail areas at North Park. On
Friday morning they conducted a training class for 15 local parks
employees and land managers. After a nice Mad Mex lunch the class
moved to the outdoors where the students were taught how to used
clinometers and properly lay out a trail.

On Saturday another class was held for the general public in the
morning. The afternoon highlight was work on the Dr. J trail. We got a
lot of great work done to ensure sustainability of the trail.

We: 1) laid two pipes and created drainage swales to collect rainwater
and spring thaw runoff that was hurting parts of the lower trail
section, 2) Rock armored the big trail drop to prevent erosion, 3)
Bench cut in the new entry way and put in a banked turn - this will
add room for new features and re-route the trail out of a steep
section that would have been subject to erosion, and 4) did some dirt
work around the new roller coaster bridge to get a jump up out of it.

PLEASE do not ride the new entry section - this part of the trail is
closed until we can build 3 new features and complete the dirt work.
Until this is all done riding this section will only slow our efforts.

We hope to complete the new entry features in June/July/August if all
goes well. We will need to secure more funding for this if you are
interested in making a donation to PTAG to help fund the Dr J trail
please contact jamie.p...@gmail.com. In the short term we plan to
replace the last remaining wooden log bridge and do more armoring/dirt
work. Please do not ride the trail when wet as it can hurt the dirt
work. The next big public advertised work day will be July 11th. There
will be other work days planned - if you want to get involved with
