Hi list members, i'd like to know if it is possible for me to restore my mac mini to the previous operating system? I ask this because I wasn't sure whether pro Tools and or other programs would work properly using the most current operating system which is Catalina 10.15.6. Thank you for any information that you might have concerning this question.

Not unless you have a time machine backup with an older OS and you
would have to restore your whole disk back to that time machine
backup.

How do you create the time machine backup so that you can restore the mac mini back to the older operating system?

You have had to be doing it all along, just hook up an external disk
and start time machine running from system preferences, or menu extra,
but you can't do this if you don't have a backup already.

Time Machine causes conflicts with Pro Tools, so that isn’t usually an option. There’s another way, but the method changes depending on OS version.

This site will point you in the right direction. I haven’t done this since Mojave, but this site is constantly updated:

This site is good about including links to their other instructional articles as they explain what to do. It’s a lot of reading, but explaining it here would be the same thing, with the difference being my instructions would be out of date.

I wish you luck,
Mike

What is the conflict between time machine and protools?

Hi, I have been able to do this by just loging into my Apple ID and
downloading the installer for the version I wish to restore to and just
using directions on line on how to create an USB installation key but
first make sure you backup all of your data first.  There are also
programs like Super Duper and Carbon Copy Cloner that can make a
bootable drive backup of your system and I find those very accessible
and usable.  Nick Gawronski

First,
Try to fix the issue inside your system.
In most cases you do not have to reinstall or go back to a previous version.

I could have sworn it was in Avid’s optimization guide, but when I checked the most recent guide, it isn’t mentioned. My mistake.

Hi Nils, I first checked with apple to see if the now older operating system was available, but I found it not to be unless I take my system in to the store. This is information that I found out. But my question is whether anyone just happens to know whether this new operating system truly supports pro tools and other applications? I just heard that there's something new but I think that it is nativeaccess but i'm not sure What do you think? Thank you for any information that you might have concerning my questions.

Protools works fine for me on Catalina 10.15.6. I did not try to edit
a video file which seemed to be the only problems with 10.15.

I first did a backup of the system first of all. But I do have a question of how to get the operating system Catalina 10.15.5 from what I understand from apple accessibility that if I take the system in to an apple store that I could be able to get back to the older operating system but I wanted to make sure that everything that I currently have was saved first of all befor I try to install the older operating system then I could install everything else. I'm especially concerned about pro tools and other programs that I currently have on the system. komplete and other programs. This is what I've done so far. What else needs to be done. Thank you for any information that you might have.

Hi Phil, how did you download the older operating system from the internet, where did you go to get the download. I do have the backup but first I wanted to make sure that everything is the way that it should be. What else should I do. Thank you for any information that you may have concerning my question.

If this is still related to your KK keyboard not working, did you install the firmware updater for that keyboard and make sure it has the latest firmware? Sometimes if the latest driver is installed but the device doesn’t have the latest firmware it won’t work. Firmware isn’t handled through native access each keyboard has its own firmware updater app. Regarding older apple installers, they can be downloaded from apple’s servers, MacWorld or MacRumors or one of those sites should have a link to where you can grab the old OS versions from Apple.

Hi oreo, how are you? Where would I find the firmware updater for the ks88 mk2? I ask this question because I know that I should probably update the firmware for the ks88 mk2 before I update the nativeaccess application. P.S. does anyone happen to know whether pro tools works with Catalina version 10.15.6, if so, then i'm in good shape but if not. I'm not sure of where I can get it from but first would I have to reinstall the operating system before adding the other programs. I did at least backup the operating system on an external drive. Thank you for any information that you might have concerning my questions.

You can download the firmware updater from the native instrument site. I am sure google can point you to it. So long as you update the firmware, update everything else through native access and then run the standalone Komplete Kontrol app  to update and index all your libraries you should be set. KK-access.com has an article on getting everything installed and set up. Also many on this list has said they are running 10.15.6 with latest pro tools.
