Hi, I am looking at upgrading to a new mac book pro soon and was
wondering if the graphics processing unit has anything to do with Pro
Tools for audio and some very small video editing like cutting off the
beginning and end of a mp4 file and adding audio effects to them?  I
don't mind getting a system with a high end graphics card if it will
help in this setup but wanted to ask here first before doing so.  I am
not worried about what this new system will be running as I am planning
on buying this for the future so if Pro Tools won't run on it for
sometime that is fine with me for now.  Nick Gawronski

One way to check this is to open activity monitor and do task you normally do and plan to do on the new machine and look if any of it uses the GPU. Activity monitor should be found the utilities folder.

Hi all

I’ve been here about two years ago for a short time and then thought it to be a good idea to go with logic pro. Well, I finally got fed up with everything and would like to get happy with pro tools. Don’t know why I didn’t just give it a try earlier.

I already have installed Pro Tools First and the Flo tools scripts. I thought I’d try with pro tools first before I go serious.
But now I’m not sure if this was a good idea because it seems I’m missing the general settings menu of pro tools where I wanted to make sure all options are set for optimal work with flo tools.
I’m not able to perform the mac standard action for CMD+, to open the settings of a program.
And I was hoping I could get my Mackie MCU Pro control surface to work with Pro Tools First and set it into HUI mode. but It’s not working so far and I think I’m not able to integrate it into Pro tools first without the necessary options available. Do you know if the free Pro tools first is really that limited on functionality?
Should I just go for the middle Pro Tools which would cost about $599 as a perpetual licence?

For now I’m a bit stuck because I think the flo tools scripts are probably not working completely because of the pro tools first limitations?
Well, some things are working like turning the metronome click on or off. But other things like single key presses like t give no reaction.

And I have another big question which might be related to pro tools in my future:
Does anybody of you know or even have a IZ Radar system?

Originally I wanted to buy a maxed out mac mini or even an iMac, should I finally be efficient with pro tools. But Now I’m considering a radar studio with the session controller. This can be used stand alone or integrated with pro tools and other DAWs, if desired. It sounds so good and promising that I’d like to find out if this can really be used without sight.
I guess there is no chance to have a screen reader in radar mode - but in DAW mode one could maybe use a screen reader like jaws and have some speech feedback?

My biggest motivation to get a radar studio is the supposed tape-like way of editing audio. I find it much to complicated to do this in logic or other programs for that matter. Just par example to set a begin and end of something and cut it out, move, copy etc.
I don’t wish having to interact with some regions and remember some funny selecting quirks of a program. I’d like to have a tape-like hardware where just simple and pleasing key presses will do the job, like I used to have in the years of minidisc recorders and their t-mark function.
So, if anyone of you know more about radar or even have one I’d be very delighted to hear from you.

Thanks in advance
Ben
