Hi, list members, i'd like to know what is the proper volume that you should have befor mixing a song begins? P.S. What are the flo tools commands for performing the mixing tasks? Thank you for any information that you might have concerning these questions.

I usually keep my audio tracks around -12 DB or lower. It’s helpful to use Plugin>Other>Trim on mono tracks and Multi-Mono Plugin>Other>Trim on stereo tracks in slot A to set levels before further processing, because the track level adjustment is post-insert, which can lead to clipping before the level adjustment.

You can find all the commands at flotools.org. Look for the Flo Tools Inspector commands for some of the more common shortcuts.

If you're having your stuff mastered by someone else, your ultimate levels should be anywhere from minus 6 to minus 2 db full scale. There's no "proper volume level at the outset while mixing. You give yourself plenty of headroom and regularly check your master bus to see how much headroom you have. Ultimately, though, you can adjust your master's output at any point regardless of the levels you're getting. It's more a matter of having enough headroom on individual tracks so that you have room to boost when you need to. If you start with individual tracks too high, you'll have no where to go in case you want to bring up a track and you've maxed out the fader gain.

Regarding Flo Tools, there's no such thing as "commands to perform the mixing task." There is only the operation of Pro Tools for mixing and Flo Tools speeds up that process and makes it way more efficient.

This thread caught my eye so figured I'd reply to it.
Did not know that pro tools had a trimmer tool, I'll have to check that out. Is that the kind of thing that goes on the master as well if it gets high? Or is maxim better for that.
I've had many times where my master hits 0 db and had to turn it down, but then the overall session gets quieter. Maybe I just need to get better at using limiters?

The "Trimmer Tool" is something that sighted users use to trim clips. You're thinking of the Gain plug-in. That is not meant for the Master bus or any master fader. There's no need for it. The output is purely controlled by the master fader itself. If it's too quiet, turn up your monitors.
