Hi guys:

Hope you all are doing very well. I upgraded to LCapiton last Friday
and upgraded my ProTools from 2019 to 2020, and I haven't been able to
open ProTools. I actually just downloaded the ProTools 2020.9 today,
and launching ProTools has been impossible. What's happening? What
more do I need to do open a session and work in it? Every time I
initiate the launch by holding down VO and pushing space bar, it just
stays there saying busy and won't open. Please help guys! Thanks!

Best,

Dammie

Sometimes when ProTools says it’s busy like that I try turning voiceover off and command tabbing away from the application, then turning voiceover back on. It’s also good practice to press the VO keys and F1 to see what is running. If you press the VO keys once again with F1 and Peru’s the menu to see what dialogs are open there may be some thing ProTools wants you to do? Those are my tidbits for now…

Sounds like you downloaded the latest ProTools which I believe is compatible with Catalina 10.15.5 and Catalina 10.15.6. I don’t know if El Capitan will work with the latest ProTools, but this is something you can check at this website:

I hope this helps,

Hi Steeve! Thanks for your suggestions. I'm trying out what you
suggested now. The OS I upgraded to is Catalina, not LCapiton. Pardon
me for that mistake. I'll let you know when anything changes. God
bless!

Yeah, I doubt that Pro Tools 2020 supports such an old operating system. Check the compatibility at avid.com/compatibility or do a search for terms like pro tools compatibility mac avid, etc. and I think you'll find that El Capitan is probably not one of the supported operating systems.

Ah, OK, now I see that you meant Catalina. Never mind that angle.

Hi Slau! That was a blunder on my part. It's not LCapiton. It's
Catalina. I basically upgraded my system from Maharvy. What do you
think is the problem and how can I resolve this problem? I'm now
trying out Steeve's suggestion, but the situation is still the same.
Thanks a lot!

Make sure that your ILOK is connected to your computer if you have one and that the Ilok software is up-to-date.

Hi Steeve! Thnks for that piece of suggestion. I'm updating my iLock
manager now. I just found that it's not the latest. I'll update you on
the next development. Thanks again!

I'm not sure what the case might be here but checking notifications and system dialogs from the Finder would definitely be a first step. Also, avoid using iLok Cloud sessions. If you have an iLok key, use that instead of iLok Cloud. Keep us posted.

Hi Slau, Steeve, and all!

Slau, Steeve suggested checking the iLock manager to see if it's the
latest version. I checked it and found it's not, and the app asks if I
want to update it, which I answered yes. Steeve, I think it has
finishing updating now. What do I do next? I'm launching it now, and
it just brought up a dialogue box, saying the version ProTools relies
on 32bit quick time yatty yatty but this OS is unable to provide it or
so, and hit okay. Now, it's saying busy again. I'm waiting to see what
it does next. Hopefully by the time I shoot this mail, it would have
opened and let me into my session. Thanks for everything guys. Steeve,
your suggestions are on point.
