Hello Slau and others!

I just imported and activated the Keyboard Maestro macro groups for Kontakt plug-in.
Could I use them with the current version of Kontakt:

When e.g. pressing Control+B to get the browser status, nothing happens.
Same for Control+1.

Thanks for helping.

Best! / Martin

Hi Martin,
I think a couple of things have changed from version 5 to version 6 including the ability to "add" a Kontakt library so the whole browser question might be irrelevant, I'm not sure. I do know that, when Kontakt 6 came out, I verified that the macros for loading NKIs and batch resaving, etc. did work and the interface was largely unchanged. I'll have to revisit the whole question of how the browsing might have changed.
HTH,
Slau

I seem to remember that the interface looks the same until you try to load a Kontakt 6 instrument.

Well, the instruments themselves all have their own specific interface but what I'm talking about is the part of the UI that doesn't change and remains the same. That's where the toolbar appears and one would normally click on various controls to achieve various results. That part of the UI has not changed.

Not dissagreeing with you on this. Was just attempting to explain the diference between the Kontakt 5 and 6 interfaces.

Hello Slau and others!

Here is the long story...

I have an instrument for the full version of Kontakt.
Copying the folder structure into the user content of NI and running KK standalone makes it possible to browse and open that instrument in KK standalone and KK plug-in in Pro Tools.

Unfortunately the instruments interface must be treated with VOCR and the mouse macros.
Due to that fact I thought that it might be better to get rid of non-relevant screen informations by opening the Kontakt plug-in in Pro Tools without KK over it.
But how do I open my instrument here?
Is there a way to test the macros for Kontakt plug-in anyhow.
Control+1 and Control+B do nothing...

Thanks and best! / Martin

Hi Phil,
Actually, that was my point. The UI is the same between both versions. The only difference is that they eliminated the process of adding Kontakt libraries.

Hi Martin,
Use Control+f to open the file menu and you'll get a number of options, among them, the Load Instrument option. Let me know if that works for you.

Hi,

I have special interest in this thread, since I try to do the same thing. I have tried to load Kontakt instruments both from Kontakt and from Komplete Kontrol. In both cases from the PT plugin. I have a feeling that the Komplete Kontrol plugin loads the instruments faster than the Kontakt plugin. Is this true or false? For a specific task, I’ll create TFX files in PT for a set of Kontakt instruments, but I’ve not decided if it’s best to do that from Kontakt or from Komplete Kontrol.

Any suggestions or reasons to choose the one over the other solution?

Best,
John André

I haven't noticed any significant difference but it stands to reason that Komplete Kontrol would presumably take a bit longer since the plug-in itself needs to load Kontakt within itself. frankly, it wouldn't matter to me which one to use except for the fact that Komplete Kontrol offers the possibility of NKS support in many cases. With Kontakt itself, there's the extra layer of having to load instruments by browsing, etc. whereas KK has a more immediate method of loading NKIs. It's almost 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

Hello Slau!

Control+F does the same like the other tried key combinations, nothing.

Maybe I did something wrong?
1. I imported the following macro groups:
Content Missing and Missing Samples Dialogs Macros,
Display Palette for Content Missing Dialog,
Kontakt 5 plug-in Macros,
Kontakt Content Missing Palette Macros.
2. I activated all that macro groups by selecting a macro group (VO+Space) and then pressing the button for activating/deactivating a group.
3. I launched Pro Tools and loaded "Kontakt Stereo" into slot 1 of an instrument track.
4. When now pressing one of the macros key combinations nothing happens.

Where is my mistake?

Thanks and best! / Martin

Hi Martin,

Start over, delete what you have and don't import all of those groups. In the Drop Box, I've deleted what's not necessary. Import the stand-alone and plug-in macro groups plus the one macro group that includes both Content Missing and Missing Samples in the name. Don't import and later enable. Instead, Go to the File menu and arrow down to "Import Macros Disabled." Hold down the Option Key and the menu item will switch to "Import Macros Enabled" and, while still holding down the Option key, press Return. This automatically imports them as enabled. Let's see if you have better luck.

Hello Slau!

I did everyting like you suggested.
Still no success and silence.

Is there anything for testing if the macros are running?
Do I have to rename anything from Kontakt5 to Kontakt6 in the macro syntax?

Hello Slau!

The Kontakt stand alone app brings more output when pressing the macros hotkeys.
But when pressing Control+F,  downarrowing to Load and pressing VO+Space, the following message appears:

"Action Failed Manipulate Window action could not find target application In macro “Load” (while executing Bring Front Window to Front).”

When trying "New Instrument", the following message appears:

"Action Failed Manipulate Window action could not find target application In macro “New Instrument” (while executing Bring Front Window to Front).”

Then I restarted my machine and launched Kontakt6.

After Control+F and “Load” the following message appears:

After Control+F and “New Instrument” the following similar message appears:

Any suggestions?

Hi,

I have tested the macros with the standalone version, and tried different window sizes and with/without the browser with the control-B toggle, in case this had anything to do  with the issues. Anyways, the control-A command gave me error messages, and if I tried control-F and then pressed the Load button for instance, this also resulted in an error message.

The new macro was loaded into KM by using the “import macros safely" menu option under the File menu in KM.
Not sure what else I can do to isolate this problem.

Any suggestions? :)

Do not import them "safely." Go to the File menu down to "Import Macros Safely" and then press the Option key and hold it down. The menu item will change from "Import Macros Safely" to "Import Macros." While still holding down the Option key, press Return. Now that you've imported a bunch of macros that are disabled, get rid of them and start over.

Ok Slau, I suppose the only way to delete what I previously have imported, is to delete them in the KM Editor. I did not find any folders in the system containing macros. So I deleted all Kontakt related macro groups in the KM editor, and imported the file you provided exactly from your description. Still, I get those error messages.

When I press control-A VoiceOver reports “no unique image found, macro add library cancelled while executing…”.

If I press control-F and then one of the buttons like “Global Purge” or “Load”, VoiceOver reports “Action failed, could not find action, could not find target application”.

You might think that the macro is not set to work in my version of Kontakt, but if I for instance open the macro for Global Purge in the KM Editor, both the Kontakt 5 and the Kontakt.app i use are listed.

Am I doing something wrong? Any ideas? Sorry for bothering you with this… :)

Hi John,
I'm going to test it one more time on my system but I'm pretty sure it worked without issues.
Just a few quick questions:
1. Do you have a monitor connected to your computer or are you using a laptop?
2. Do you have your screen curtain on?
3. Under the Visuals tab of VoiceOver Utility, what is your VoiceOver cursor magnification set to?
Cheers,

Hi Slau,

My answers are:

1. Do you have a monitor connected to your computer or are you using a laptop?

Yes I have a monitor connected and in use with my desktop Mac Pro 2008

2. Do you have your screen curtain on?

I use it both with and without the screen curtain on, I think the issue is the same but I’ll check.

3. Under the Visuals tab of VoiceOver Utility, what is your VoiceOver cursor magnification set to?

The VO magnification is set to 1.

Best,
John André

Just an FYI, image recognition will not work with the screen curtain enabled so be aware of that condition.

I don’t use image recognition, VOCR or such to read text from my screen, unless KM macros contain something like that….

I have now tested both with and without screen curtain turned on, and the issue is not different because of this. Also, I have toggled both control-B and control-M to see if the result was different with the browser shown or hidden, and with different window sizes.

I have also tried to press control-1, 2, 3 or 4 before pressing control-A or control-F and the related buttons, in case the selection of Libraries/files/Expert etc. had any impact on the issue. but it was the same result each time with the same error messages.

Best,
John André

For what it's worth, the Kontakt macros do indeed use image recognition to find the toolbar. I don't know what the issue could possibly be. It works for nearly everybody on multiple machines. The instances where image recognition didn't work was almost always with systems outside North America and the UK. I'm beginning to wonder if that somehow plays a roll.

Hi,

I run US system on my Mac by several reasons, and have done so for years.  but I usually run Norwegian Extended keyboard setup, but I have also the US keyboard setup available, and I have tested Kontakt standalone with the keyboard set to US. I still get the same error messages. So the system localisation might not be the reason for these issues?

?

Not sure. I'm out of ideas at this point.

How about screen resolution or other such settings in OSX? From the error messages, it seems like KM is looking for something at a specific area of the screen/window, and if the screen resolution is different, it might not be at a expected position on the screen? No clue at all, I’m just trying to figure this out…. Sorry to involve you…. :)

I’ll appreciate any thoughts…

Best,
John André

OK, I've thought about it some more and I might have figured out the problem. delete the Kontakt Stand-Alone macro group and import the following macros:

Hi,

Now, you are on the track of something….

The Load button now works under control-F. But not the new instrument or new instrument bank buttons. Also, control-A still have the same error message.

Best,
John André

Let me know if these work and we can take it from there. This is for Kontakt 6 stand-alone. Keep me posted.

The Add Library doesn't work anymore because they stopped supporting that feature the way it used to work. I'm not sure about the new instrument and bank options. I'll have to double-check to see if the menu options themselves have changed.

Hi Slau,

Your Kontakt macro’s, I still can’t get them to work. Only the control + F keystroke works but after pushing one of the options like Load or new instrument, I get the following error message:
Action Failed Manipulate Window could not find any matching windows In macro “Load” (while executing Bring Window(s) With Name Containing “Load Patch” to
This is in the standalone Kontakt 5 or 6. With the plugin in Pro Tools I get a similar error.

Any thoughts?

thanks,
Ronald

Let me think about this for a bit. Not sure why it might misbehaving. It works for others…

There were quite a few people in this thread for which it wouldn’t work either.
Is it easy enough to make such macro’s for Kontakt by a sighted  person?

There were two people for whom it didn't work and they were outside the U.S. as I recall. Still not sure why that might be. Anyway, are you on Catalina?

It's no more difficult for a blind user. The issue is knowing how to construct macros with Keyboard Maestro. That's by far the more difficult challenge. If the macros aren't seeing the "Load Instrument" dialog, there's something strange going on. Let's see if we can figure it out.

Yes I’m on Catalina and outside the US also. I have tried to set my Mac to English and US region, without any luck. Pro Tools version 2019.12, but get errors in standalone Kontakt Player as well.
I would like to get a Komplete Kontrol keyboard, but my only Kontakt based instruments are non nks.

Hi Ronald,
I'm going to venture a guess that, if your system is not set to English, it's possible that the "Load Instrument" dialog is titled something else and the macro calls specifically to find the window titled "Load Instrument." There's no room for error here and programming is unforgiving. It's possible to alter the macros to find the frontmost window rather than the window titled "Load Instrument" but it might be less reliable. It's certainly possible to test this theory. Let me see if I can alter the macros to at least perform a simple test. I'm in the midst of preparing for a trip overseas for an orchestral project so I'm under a bit of pressure but I think I could manage a little time before I leave. Stay tuned.

Hi Slau,

If you dont have enough time its ok, then you can do it when you come back;)

Even when my system is set to US English language and region, with US keyboard layout, with no screen curtain enabled. This is on an iMac.

Hi Ronald,
Give this a try:
1. Go into Keyboard Maestro and navigate to the Kontakt Stand-Alone macro group. Press VO Shift M to bring up a contextual menu and disable the macro group.
2. Import the following macros:
Kontakt Stand-Alone copy Macros.kmmacros

Hi Slau,

I have done exactly what you said, but now control+F does not work at all.
I was thinking, can it have something to do with the mouse / cursor routing settings of Voice Over?

<Kontakt Stand-Alone copy Macros.kmmacros>
To import, go to Keyboard Maestro File menu and go down to "Import Macros Safely." While on the menu item, press the Option key and the menu item will change to "Import Macros." While still holding down the Option key, press Return. Navigate to the macro file and press Return.

You should have a new macro group with the word "copy" appended to it. Launch Kontakt 6 Stand-Alone, press Control F and then choose Load. That's the only macro I altered. Let's see if you then get the "Load" dialog. Let me know what happens.

It shouldn't. The macros manipulate the mouse pointer regardless of its behavior relative to VoiceOver. Let me check another thing. Hang on…

Hello Slau!

Running an 100 % US compatible Mac for years now I can confirm Ronald's issues.

Could it be that some important Kontakt settings are missing on our machines.
View options, toolbars, sub windows etc.
