SAFDA Questionnaire

According to the mandate in its Constitution, SAFDA's main objectives are to promote Ultimate in South Africa, select South African representatives for international tourneys, and cultivate the growth of the sport. Currently the SAFDA Committee consists of 6 members representing most of the provinces where Ultimate is actively played (Eastern Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and the Western Cape) and it is endeavouring to assist clubs with the promotion of Spirit of the Game and building new and established skills. The bad news is: SAFDA has almost no funds (at the moment, the R20 SAFDA levy that forms part of the Player Fee during Nationals is just enough to pay our World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) fees - which ensures South Afrca's on-going affiliation to WFDF and being eligible to compete in international events). We are therefore inviting input from the Ultimate community to assist us with ideas for building SAFDA, and making decisions on criteria for international and nationals tourneys. Please fill in the questionnaire below

•  Nationals Player fee to include R50 per person to go toward SAFDA
•  Any other SAFDA sanctioned tournament a player fee of R30 per person toward SAFDA
•  Annual club registration fee to SAFDA of R2000 per club
•  Annual player registration of R50 per player that plays Ultimate for any club. (Each player gets registered with SAFDA, no fee no SAFDA event play)

WFDF World Championships

The next World Champs will be held in 2016 and is likely to be in London. This location may enable more people from South African Ultimate to compete at Worlds than when the champs were held elsewhere. The next section relates to suggested criteria for selecting individuals/teams to represent South Africa at this tournament.

How should the South African 'Mixed Team' for the WFDF World Champs be selected? (choose 1)"I am a superstar" - Toybox

•  The winning team of the SAFDA National Championships 2 years before the World Champs should have the first option on sending a team to Worlds (for example, winners of of Nationals 2014, will have the option of entering Worlds 2016).
•  Teams from specific clubs should put in a bid to SAFDA with motivations on why they should represent SA, and how they intend to prepare for Worlds
•  Individual players can put in specific bids to SAFDA on how a team will be put together and train
•  SA should not send teams to international events
•  There is an Ultimate World Champs.... ?

Mixed Team Rules: In SA the WFDF male to female ration rule is often not applied in mixed games, and at SAFDA-tournaments the minimum number of ladies is 2 per line. In view of entering Mixed Teams in international events, how should SA move towards the appropriate gender ratio? (WFDF Rules of Ultimate 2009: (s A6.1). After the start of each point, prior to the pull, the offensive team chooses to play with either three (3) male players and four (4) female players or three (3) female players and four (4) male players. 5 A6.1.1. Organisation of SAFDA tourneys

With the growth of Ultimate in South Africa, the organisation and logistics of national tournaments have become very complex and onerous on hosting clubs. How does the UItimate community encourage clubs to put in bids for the organisation of tourneys in the future?

Incentives for tournament organisation"Whistle While You Work" - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

•  Keep current incentive: Organising club is entitled to 5% of Player Fees and no tournament fees levied for organising committee
•  Give organising club a flat fee of R7000-R10 000 for organisation of tournament
•  Pay professional Event Organisers to arrange events
•  Pay individuals in the Ultimate community to organise the event
•  R20 of the player fee goes directly to the organising club.
