The International Conference on Computational Processing of
Portuguese, former Workshop on Computational Processing of the
Portuguese Language - PROPOR - is the main event in the area of
Natural Language Processing that is focused on Portuguese and the
theoretical and technological issues related to this specific
language.

The meeting has been a very rich forum for the interchange of ideas
and partnerships for the research communities dedicated to the
automated processing of the Portuguese language. PROPOR brings
together research groups in the area, promoting the development of
methodologies, linguistic resources and projects that can be shared
among all researchers and practitioners in the field.

PROPOR 2008 Organizers and the PROPOR Committee invite the scientific
community to submit original and unpublished research on aspects of
Computational Processing of Portuguese, including, but not limited to:
1. Human speech production, perception and communication
a. Linguistic, mathematical and psychological models of language
b. Pragmatics, discourse, semantics, syntax and the lexicon
c. Phonetics, phonology and morphology
d. Paralinguistic and nonlinguistic cues (e.g. emotion and
expression)

d. Extraction and annotation of entities, relations and properties
e. Creation and processing of ontologies and vocabularies
f. Machine learning for natural language processing
g. Shallow and deep semantic analysis: textual entailment,
anaphora resolution, paraphrasing
h. Multi-lingual processing, machine translation and translation
aids
i. Natural language processing for information retrieval and
extraction
3. Speech Technology and Applications:
a. Spoken language generation and synthesis
b. Speech and speaker recognition
c. Spoken language understanding
d. Spoken language interfaces and dialogue systems
e. Systems for information retrieval and information extraction
from speech
f. Systems for translation
g. Applications for aged and handicapped persons
h. Applications for learning and education
