This morning woke it from sleep mode and found that apparently all the files(daemon&startap script, serviioweb and serviio directory itself) that I created last evening as root have disappeared. Other strange thing was that when I tried to reconnect with putty(same IP), it prompted for new SSH key as if the SSH server had generate another key.

The guide has now been updated for Kralizec support and Sardaukar support. See the 1st post for details. If you run into problems, please post them here and I will try to address them as soon as I can.

A minor update to this project. I am working on compiling ffmpeg with the latest version and I am also testing the latest static builds. I am testing the deb-multimedia repository as well. Here are some thoughts I have. 1. Web based console. While there is a 3rd party option that I use, I think Serviio should include their own web console. This is a crucial part missing from Serviio in my opinion. 2. Media Browser. It is dependent on Flash. I will continue to support this guide as best to my ability. In the long term I would like it to turn into a plugin but until Serviio makes changes to their code we will not see it as as a plugin. For now, enjoy the guide as a basic setup for Serviio. Advanced configuration is in the works. When I have finished my testing I will post the results. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

EDIT: I have edited this post as I felt I was ranting (beer was involved hehe) and not addressing my thoughts in the right forum. The issues I am facing I should address in the Serviio forums and not address here.

I just DL UMS 4.01 today and noticed from the changelog that they added a webui which is one or your sore spots with Serviio. I will have to load it up and try it as it has a had a ton of changes lately.

I think you are skipping some of the steps and that is why you are having issues. As for the license it seems you did not replace XXX like I suggested. If you don't have a license file you can skip this step. As for the startup script, I will double check it but I'm pretty sure it's ok since I built it while writing the guide and it has worked in the past.

It seems like you are missing the top half of the startup script or something didn't copy correctly. I would suggest you delete the /etc/init.d/serviio file and try again from step 2 in the guide. Copy the source code in step 2 and save it as /etc/init.d/serviio and try the command again to add it to the startup. Also make sure you have done the step to add the user serviio so the script will run as the user serviio. If you still have problems let me know. Let's get you up and running!

David is right noxx. Since you are logged in as root you do not need "sudo". You only need to use sudo when you are not logged in as root and added your user account to the sudo group. I'm sorry if that has confused you. I prefer to use sudo over logging in as root. But if you want to login as root that is your choice and you don't need to use the sudo command.

I am new here. I can not write whole article about this topic, as I don't have time but I would like to share essential screenshoots and comments on the topic. I made it running and I have to say that I was a bit frustrated as internet tutorials are misleading or incomplete.

So my usage scenario is that unraid is installed on the laptop lenovo x220 which is very cheap and with low power consumption and battery is the simplest way for home nas server. What I wanted is DLNA server (serviio), document sync between my laptop and stationary pc (owncloud) and general network disk (samba share).

Laptop has one internal hdd and several usb drives connected. Obviously I want owncloud on internal hdd as this is the most reliable drive and I want my data to be store there. Usb drives are fine for backups and for non essential things like multimedia.

- for multimedia crate share like Movies, Cartoons, Music, Whatever. You can use exclude option to exclude internal hdd as this one will be used for essential data, and all usb drives will be used for multimedia.

3. Now search for owncloud. There are several versions, but one is good one - with mysql (mariaDB) included - I forgot developer name. Install the app it will download and create new docker. Now it is advised to put custom sql server password. First when installing and then on first owncloud launch. I will attach screenshot of the docker with owncloud running and howto configure on first run.

4. Serviio - docker provided by community (riftbit/serviio) is working fine, but folder mapping was wrong. I have attached screenshot how it supposed to be done. If You wan't your dlna to be discoverable it is essential to configure network as host and don't map config folder as discovery goes over multicast address!!

This tutorial would be great - except when I download the template (dockerhub search results) via the unraid app store the template is blank and I have to stick ALL the volumes in. Is there a better way to get the template?

I am happy to hear it is useful, even though a bit chaotic. I am not sure if I understand the problem. I have installed owncloud and serviio from community apps (not docker hub search). In first place it is better to use community package, if required software is not there then docker hub. I have found that community packages have some variables and settings exposed right away when installing so it is much easier to use package. I am attaching screen shot of the search results on my pc.

There seem to be a problem with serviio.sh. The syntax inside assumes "bash" however the shebang specifies #!/bin/sh which is a directive to use POSIX compatible shell. While by default in arch sh points to bash, it is not a requirement to have bash as a fallback; both arch bash and dash documentation briefly touches upon POSIX compatibility.

After install use these commands to get it going .systemctl start serviio.service ( Starts the service and it will start at boot . )systemctl stop serviio.service ( Stops the service )systemctl status serviio.service ( Will show you the server status )
