I have been testing the use of this conversion feature, and it seems fine when the file is first imported. However, when saving the file and closing, and then re-opening, the linetypes have been washed away and I am left with continuous lines where my microstation linetypes once were. The linetype is still defined in the "Linetype" dialog, however the graphics simply loom like a continuous line. Any thoughts?

our client sent us dng files which I was able to convert to CAD 7, but my linetypes are not plotting right. The client sent us also all the linetypes and standards but in microstation format. How do I transfer/convert these standards so I can create the correct plot style so my drawings will plot correctly?

I haven't gone through the workflow, but as Peter metioned above, you'll need to put the microstation linestyle file (.rsc) in the Autocad files path for the translation to maintain fidelity. So I would conclude you'll need to get the .rsc file from the DGN source.

I already read on Autodesk knowledge on how to import/export and I`m with some problems to import .dgn documents from microstation to autocad. I have been doing a lot of tests, involving the export option on microstation to .dwg and also inside autocad, using the import .dgn option to .dwg.

*** There is a feature named "smartlines" from microstation that when imported to autocad, it is translated to polylines. When it comes to autocad, the geometry of those "smartlines" are fully converted as it was in microstation. When we are dealing with complex geometries of those polylines, it is too messy to eddit, when comparing on how it is to eddit those "smartlines" in microstation. Is there any feature in autocad that can be used to solve this problem, and to really makes that eddinting easy?

"For missing geometry, is that geometry Parasolid based elements? Those will not be translated."
No, I`m taking about cad formats (.dwg). I`m losing some block elements when importing some .dgn files to autocad, using the custom import option avaiable in Autocad.

"For the linetypes, if they are in rsc files for MicroStation, then you'll need to have those rsc files available somewhere in the AutoCAD search path. And, they need to be there from the first time you do anything with dgn files in AutoCAD during that AutoCAD session because the first time anything is done with dgn in an AutoCAD session, the dgn system is initialized for that AutoCAD session and it sets up a list of rsc files that are available. That list does not update during that AutoCAD session, so only the rsc files that are found during initialization will be available for that AutoCAD session."

Where can I find this .rsc file?

sorry for the multiview part, i should have clarified- im looking for the acad equivalent of viewports in microstation, how to make views in paperspace, Im looking into achieving it using fences but Im sort of stuck

I've been trying to copy and 3dpolyline from cad to microstation as I need to create a fly through along a section of road (about 8km). I don't want to have to re-trace with a smart line every time I want to create a path. I have lines in 3d cad drawings all with the appropriate levels. When I copy in CAD and go to paste from clipboard in Microstation it tries to paste it as and OLE object!

I Agree to Mr. James. Autocad Is most friendly user than microstation. when it comes to command Autocad is much faster than microstation. microstation is time consuming of finding a command. for me i preferred a autocad rather than microstation. no offends to microstation user.

Commentaires :visualizing and modeling point cloud data and reality meshes.
microstation have separete module for each and lots or fundtion that can extract data. also reads several formats of point cloud which means i dont have to use another application and allow point cloud classifications with alot of features and specs

what i like most about microstation it have alot of operations can be done through microstation drawing, 3d modeling, making charts and work sheets. without haaving to close and open another appliation. also i can visualize my work, hide, display or clip my design without deleting or removing any item.also microstation dynamic reference makes it easy to update all my drawings and sheets (3D&2D) with only updating design model.most of all it is Auto-save CAD application. and i can record each change i do on me my design and recall this changes.

They have a lot of support videos of community forums that have been really helpful on resolving issues or finding best practices for each particular use. The file format makes opening and switching between files much quicker than autocad.

No complaints about microstation itself but they have been making a lot of improvements and changes to their 3D package. It's been a difficult to keep up with the all the changes as an original geopak user. Once I got used to the new tools it an helped my efficiency working on projects.

Ease of use. User friendly. Can use two, three screens which make it easy to copy items to find things on the screen easily. Microstation allows you to open and convert autocad files. YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAVE YOUR WORK!! I just love this product.I can't say enough good things about Microstation by Bentley.

I do like the tabs that autocad uses so that you don't have to open a file separately. The cost of a Microstation license is fairly expensive. I'd like to have some different fonts and linestyles given by the manufacturer.
