Hello

I am trying to install my task onto a new (or rather, older: running windows xp) laptop. First trying to download pschyopy 1.80.01 standalone file but am experiencing some difficulties with the installation.

if i try to save it to program files, I immediately get the error:

"error opening file for writing:
c:program files/psychopy2/changelog.txt
click abort to stop the installation.....etc."

If I click ignore it gives the same error message for the next file (license.txt)

I've tried with older versions but get the same issue.

If I try to save it into a more downstream folder (c:\documents and settings\users\etc...) then the installation runs for a while then says "cannot write c:WINDOWS\system32\avbin.dll"

I'm not sure what's wrong - is it a compatability issue? an authorization issue?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Lucy

oops didn't finish the description - if I just skip avbin.dll, then it says "cannot write updated PATH to HKLM"

Do you have admin rights on the machine?

Hi Jon,

Yes that was my first though - I was assured that the account I was working from had full admin rights - but do you think this error message implies otherwise?

I'm stumped I'm afraid. Did you ask PsychoPy to install to a custom folder? If the error message is exactly as you say it is then the strange thing is that it wants to install to folders like
c:program files/
c:WINDOWS\system32\avbin.dll
rather than
c:/Program Files/
c:\WINDOWS\system32
(ie. the definition of your main drive seems to be c: rather than c:/ )
I've no idea how that would come about though. Have you tried running any other program installers lately?

cheers,
Jon
