I am Kuppu from Oxford, Dept of Experimental Psychology.

I explored Psychophy and it is very nice.  When I design a simple stroop task using the demo video, I get an error message.  I understand from my practice that it is the problem with importing the data from drive in Open GL. Am really confused.

Does it require open GL, I couldn download one from internet?. It says my system do not support it.

I have an experiment in mind, I will describe it here, could you guys please tell me if this is possible in Psychophy and if so, how?... may be a small guide will help me design it.

I am planning to design a child friendly sequence learning task (SRT), which is suppose to be attractive to kids, so obviously with an animation and feedback for correct and faster response.

In SRT, Four circles appear on screen and one of the circles has the stimulus (i.e.,  colored). We usually use four pictures, depicting four possible stimuli locations and feed into the software. It appears for about 1 second, and an empty screen appears for about  3 seconds, during which the child can respond (the child can respond even in that 1 second during which the stimuli appeared). The child is asked to press the spatially corresponding button to that of the stimuli to respond. That is a trial and a next set appears in which a different location is colored and it goes on.

This time we want to have an animation with it.If the stimuli appears in location one, then the child probably presses the button "c" (it will be "v", "b", "n", & "m" for other locations). I am familiar till this stage.

We are thinking of a possible audio feedback (very nice and encouraging beep) along with a nice picture cartoon popping up (may be incorporated as a single image). No pop up or audio reinforcement for wrong responses.

The main problem here is the audio and visual reinforcement should appear only for correct responses. I am not at all good in coding so please suggest me how to do this in builder view.

is it possible at first place?

thanks for your time.

Hi Kuppu,

Welcome to PsychoPy.

Your proposed experiment is definitely possible. Conditional feedback is easily achieved, e.g., a happy sound only for a correct answer. Search the PsychoPy email archives a bit and you should come across a couple descriptions of how to do this use code from within a Builder script.

But first, you'll need to resolve the OpenGL issue. OpenGL comes with PsychoPy, no need to download it separately. But not all computer hardware can support it. So I suggest you try both of these:

1) switch to the coder view, look in the Demos menu for a script called "sysInfo.py", click on it. It should load in the Coder view. Then run it (click the green running person). Let us know the output of that script, especially the section called "OpenGL info"

2) try again on a different computer (i.e., with a newer or more advanced graphics card). If that does not work, please post the actual error message that you get.

Hello Kuppu,

I am Alena from the National Research Institute, Center of Neuroeconomics and Cognitive Research, Moscow.
I am planning an experiment that tests procedural memory, and I was planning to use the serial reaction task. I was wondering if you were able to eventually build your experiment and, if so, if you would be willing to share your PsychoPhy script with me. I would be immensely grateful for any help.
Thank you so much,
Alena
