Hey all,

I'd like this mailing list to be used for relaxed and general discussion about all things concerning PsychonautWiki itself, psychonautics, and psychoactive drugs.

The codes of conduct for this mailing list are simple.
  • Be polite, chilled out, and reasonable.
  • Do not spam.
  • Do not discuss online sources of psychoactive goods.
  • Use common sense.

Thanks. :)

This post serves as evidence that the riseup password reset request is real.

Just needed some proof for the Riseup.net people because I lost a password...although I suppose it looks sort of unprofessional. Normally it would get lost in the flood of other mailing list posts...IF ANYBODY EVER USED IT.

What a shame that this mailing list never took off, but I guess I'm partly to blame. IRC is so much faster...

I might as well give it a go though.

I'm waiting until my current territory develops a bit more, then I'd like to co-author an article on the wiki about vipassana meditation. I think KayTwo and I have experienced enough to verify (most of) Ingram's MCTB first path model (at least until mid/high equanimity), and I'd like to write about it as well as my experience with different catalysts (micro-doses of LSD, nitrous, how it changes the perception of vibrations in the different senses). This has been my (and KayTwos?) main research area for several months now, so it's about time I start contributing to the wiki with my findings.

Basically I'd like to know how you (osca / josie) would want to present an article on this subset of meditation. Vipassana follows a series of progressive changes in the meditator's perception. I posted about some of them before. There are "maps" in dharma communities detailing these changes. If you want me to I could draft you an article about my understanding of vipassana, the notion of "enlightenment", the technique, the changes in perception, and how the whole process works. And I think many experienced meditators would be able to point to the article and say it is correct...

...however the territory is incredibly vast and KayTwo and I have only explored a small chunk of it. So regarding the article... Should we just stick to our own experiences? Should we write about the territory we've read about but have yet to experience? The same goes for articles on concentration meditation and the jhanas, on which I know a lot of theory but have had minimal first-hand experience. (Mostly because I've been concentrating on insight)

It's 3AM and I'm in an LSD afterglow and I'm exhausted and just happy to have access to my email account again, so I apologize if the above post was a little muddled. But I think you generally get my meaning. I also have pages upon pages of meditation logs which somewhat detail the changes in perception I have experienced as my meditation skills developed. Tell me how you want me to incorporate what I know and what I have, and I'll write you a kick-ass vipassana article!

Hi everyone, first time I write to the mailing list :)
Aleks, regarding your question about what to write on the wiki, I think the best would be to only write about first-hand experience (like the rest of the wiki I assume).

Cheers,
Ricardo

Well AleksTK, the wiki is a place for consolidation of information. We already have a meditation article which I encourage you to expand now that we understand more about its principals and practical uses.

It would be good to describe the attitude towards meditation of each school of Buddhism, drawing any conclusions in a non-authodox frame.

Specifically the different styles (jhana, vipassana, etc) need to be described and we could do with fleshing out the subject into more than a single article. I have long said we need to try to cover more than only chemical alteration as a means of consciousness exploration, so feel free to modify the meditation article to be a portal of sorts and create sub pages or an index for related topics.

You and Kaytwo are really the best candidates for this.

I've mostly been waiting until I finish my first insight cycle and hit
stream entry. (Assuming it exists, but my experience has lined up with
the dharma community maps so far). I feel like I need to actually
experience nirvana before I feel comfortable writing about the process
leading up to it. I should be close as I'm finally able to see data in
multiple senses at the same time. (Ingram / others call this 'Equanimity')

Since you're the newest one of us to meditate, I want to stress how
important it is that you write down your experiences in detail and log
how much time you put into your sessions. KayTwo and I made the mistake
of not being thorough with our early logs. As such I have a bit of
information on the Dark Night stages (where perception was muddled and
everything sucked) and quite a bit about equanimity, but not much about
the early stages or A/P events. (Those are the body orgasms / rushing
sensations I told you about before.)

More data is what I think we really need, maybe I can convince the DHO
guys to give me some of their logs. I doubt most of them have experience
with psychedelics, which is a good thing. Discovering how much of a
catalyst to progress psychedelics are is also worth investigation.

Double-posting in a sin. Posts do not show up immediately on the Google Groups page.

Keep your daily logs on Google Docs, I look forward to reading them. We'll link different logs from the vipassana section of my user page once I upload it from my computer. I'll do that soon.
