I have always thought of dreaming as a process of tinkering with the
cognitive structures at the foundation of consciousness itself. This
is a weighty statement if we think of consciousness as a mental sense
organ through which we select, make sense of, and evaluate our world.

We all know how waking events can influence us, but what about dream
experiences, which may have more of a direct influence in that they are
not mediated by awareness. I believe dream experiences have a hand in
shaping our consciousness and thus the experiences in our dreams can in
some ways be regarded as symbolic blueprints of future states of
awareness.
If this theory has any merit, it would explain how we can catch obscure
glimpses of the imprint of the creator in the perceived creation.
