Meaningis the association that we draw between two experiences or events in our minds. X happens, then Y happens, so we assume that means X causes Y. Z happens, and we get really bummed out and feel awful, therefore we assume that Z sucks.

We all need Cause/Effect meaning to survive. It helps us predict the future and learn from the past. Cause/Effect meaning primarily involves the logical parts of our brain. Science, for instance, is the constant search of more and more Cause/Effect Meaning.

Both forms of meaning evolved in our brains to help us survive. For thousands of years, humans needed to remember where certain food could be found, how various animals would respond when hunted, how weather patterns change and how to read the terrain. They also needed to know what would gain them acceptance within their tribe, what would curry favor from friends and earn approval from that sexy guy/gal in the loin cloth over yonder.

A lot of people find meaning through setting goals for themselves. They want the corner office, the big car, the fancy-pants shoes. It gives them a reason to wake up in the morning, a reason to bust their ass at work. It gives them something that makes them feel important and something to look forward to every day.

I have surveyed more than 10 commentaries on this, some comment on these verses specifically, and the ones that do disagree somewhat. It is not clear to me if the meaning of these words is clear, or if they are somewhat ambiguous. Also are they connected?

Perhaps Jesus is referring to the Jews and their guardianship of the Law, or their added law, i.e. it is a negative statement. Perhaps Jesus is referring to gifting/knowledge/understanding, i.e. its a positive statement, for those who handle their talents well.

If verse 24 is a reference to Jews, then verse 25 is a bit more problematic, perhaps, those without the law have its requirements taken away? If verse 24 is a reference to handling gifts, then 25 is completely straightforward.

Mar 4:10 And when he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables. Mar 4:11 And he said to them, "To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables,

Measurement is comparison to a standard. The proper standard is the value to the reign of God. So Jesus is saying that one must choose their measuring device properly because when the measuring device that they choose to measure Jesus' words will become the measuring device by which God and Jesus will measure them:

Mat 13:51 "Have you understood all these things?" They said to him, "Yes." Mat 13:52 And he said to them, "Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old." Mat 13:53 And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there,

Mat 13:13 This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. Mat 13:14 Indeed, in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says: "'"You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive." Mat 13:15 For this people's heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.'

So Jesus is saying to take the secret of God's deferred kingdom and use it as a measuring device against all they hear and they will come to great insights and success while those who fail to do that will lose any insight and success that they already have attained.

"Measure"; i.e., "Significance." It logically follows that, the more serously one receives the Word, the more diligently one will pursue further insight; the result is that one will continually grow.

Jesus is contrasting the disposition of the crowds with that of his apostle, where as the crowds are just satisfied in hearing the parables, and are not inclined to learn the explanations of the parables. The inquisitive Apostle and his followers are blessed with the explanations and more parables.

That is, to the extent/measure the disciples pay interest and show attention to his teaching and apply the Godly wisdom to themselves, they will benefit accordingly. If they give him their greatest interest and attention they will benefit all the more, and He will respond by giving them more spiritual truth, and enlightenment . However if they show little interest , that little which they have, will be taken away from them.

One must know, how a man knows God is not how God Knows him. His word always stirs a hunger in us to pursue and by that we come to a place of understanding to continue our relationship with Him. One Word I finding constantly in Jesus teaching "continue, persistent" and others that holds the same meaning as such. We must also know provision has been made for us in our pursuit, reading 2 Peter 1-3 and continuing from V 5-11 tells what should be added to enrich us in Him. Now considering the discussion above let consider how Apostle Paul praise the People of Berea over Thessalonica. Paul speaks of them as being open-minded, noble for they eagerly received the message, examining carefully scriptures every day and that was the attitude of Jesus disciples at that time and Jesus by that open them up to the reward attached to their time/life for the Word.

Jesus is teaching that those who diligently cultivate their faith and beliefs will be rewarded more than their effort invested. On the contrary, those who passively rely on their faith, assuming their position remains secure, may ultimately discover that they lost everything.

I came across the quote above from contemporary artist Mark Ryden and it struck a chord with me. So, often an image has a feeling to it that is beyond words that adequately describe it. I know I have sometimes written about a piece of mine and even though I have tried to fully describe how it strikes me, I often feel that the words fall well short.

His work is engaging and appealing on many levels with recurring themes that run through the work. It is rich in symbolism though I think there is so much ambiguity that one could get lost in trying to decode many of the paintings. Which makes his statement about the image itself being its own meaning even more understandable.

I also came across another quote from Ryden that hits close to home for me: I believe if you follow your heart and do what you love, success will follow. If you enchant yourself, others will be too.

The CE mark is a symbol that a manufacturer (see definition below) affixes to a product so that it can be sold in Europe. The mark is mandatory for products which fall under one of 24 European directives. The CE mark means that the manufacturer takes responsibility for the compliance of a product with all applicable European health, safety, performance and environmental requirements. CE stands for "Conformit Europenne", the French for European conformity.

The mark is required in all 27 member states of the EU, as well as Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein. Switzerland accepts the CE mark for some products and Trkiye actually requires that many products be CE marked.

The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) or the Underwriters' Laboratories (UL) marks, for example, can only be used when those organizations have determined that a product meets applicable standards. European organizations do not grant authorization to use the CE mark as it is not owned by any particular body. The manufacturer is responsible for its proper use.

The manufacturer, whether established inside or outside the EU, is ultimately responsible for affixing the CE mark and is also responsible for its proper use. The manufacturer established outside the EU may appoint an authorized representative established in the EU to act on his behalf. CE marking is about more than affixing a symbol to a product.

How do you know if your product requires a CE mark? The first step is to see if your product is covered under one or more of the 24 CE directives below. If your product falls under any of these directives, it needs to be CE marked.

For example, the EU directive for products which fall under the electromagnetic compatibility category calls for member states to ensure that electrical devices that fall under this category meet certain requirements:

The EMC directive first limits electromagnetic emissions of equipment in order to ensure that, when used as intended, such equipment does not disturb radio and telecommunication as well as other equipment. The directive also governs the immunity of such equipment to interference and seeks to ensure that this equipment is not disturbed by radio emissions when used as intended.

Determining whether your product falls under one or more directives can be difficult. For example, if you manufacture electronic packaging machines with a conveyer belt, several directives will impact you. If you want to know which directives apply, you will have to go through each of the 24 directives (product coverage is sometimes found in an annex). There is no reference tool or database that lists which directives might be applicable to certain products. A trade commissioner can help you navigate these complexities.

Each directive details what the EU legally requires for your product to be compliant. These are formally referred to as "essential requirements" in the directive. These requirements are very general in nature. The directives do not detail how to design a product in a way that it meets the essential requirements.

In many cases, manufacturers may rely on standards other than harmonized standards in order to demonstrate compliance with the essential requirements in the directives. One notable exception to this rule is the Construction Products Regulation which makes the use of harmonized standards mandatory.
