The song starts exactly when the movie ends, that is the death of Ram and Leela. It starts with the temple bells ringing. Listen carefully and you would realize that this is a prayer for the departed couple. The flute is sweet yet has a very melancholic tone. The chorus then starts singing-

This is a general introduction of the phenomenon of love. It says how passionate (laal) and how depressing and remorseful (Malaal) love can be. Love can be a defect (Aeb/Aib) and love can be in enmity (Bair).

Now, he is talking about how humans are connected by one single thing- love and compassion for others. Love is the ultimate unifier. This is what can be deciphered from the first instance of this stanza from the lyrics.

The second time is when he has met Leela on the day of holi and played with her. The Laal here is red for passion and lust while Malal here signifies the regret that she belongs to the other caste and that his goal to love her is difficult. The words aib and bair signify the difficulties and the hindrances that he has to face if he wants to further meet her and build a relationship with her.

The desire to have her is so intense that he is ready to take any step. He is prepared to change his name and caste or hide her name or caste in order to achieve the union. He also suggests that he may leave the material world and become a hermit in order to make it possible.

He is so lovestuck that he wants to forget everything and be only involved in love. This also signifies and portrays his frustration and suffocation that he has faced from childhood of hating the other community and being their enemy when he only wants to befriend them and treat them as equals with love. Mera kaam also means that he would like to erase enemity from his life and only be involved in love.

He wants to be known as an all compassionate, all loving and a person who sees and treats everyone with love and respect. His quest for equality and compassion is resonated when he says Mera naam Ishq, tera naam ishq. It is only love that he sees and wants.

This is the goodbye that he is saying to his lover. Here, the second line means that he is no longer a human now and his soul has left the body because of the constant fight. He is shot by his own lover.

The final stanza is the epitome of repentance, guilt, and remorse. The laal here becomes the red color that is for anger, violence, and blood. The love had made the communities angry and violent that they did something that they are guilty of in every moment of their life. The love is deformed because it has costed the lives of the most lovable people in their communities and the enmity has succeeded in erasing their love from their world.

The song then ends with the same prayerful effect that is created by the bells. However, there is also Shehnai that signifies the melancholy, grief, and disappointment in them. It is also the Shehnai that they play in marriage to pay for their deeds and compensate in some manner for the departed couple. The Shehnai becomes their tribute, submission, and apology of all the troubles that they have caused to the loving couple.

Thus, this beautiful song encompasses several things at once. Be it the character arc of Ram or the message that the movies stands for. Everything layered in just one song. So subtle, so powerful, and yet so soothing. That is what is the magic of Bhansali. That is the magic of Bollywood, and that is the magic of film-making.

This by far has been the most accurate, apt and brief description of song one has understood. I like the little nuances that you added from your own imagination. The description is polite yet raw. This is inspired writing. Well done sir.

Apna naam badal doon.. [badal doon..]
Ya tera naam chhupa loon.. [chhupa loon..]
Ya chhod ke saari yaad main bairaag utha loon
Bas ek rahe mera kaam ishq
Mera kaam ishq, mera kaam ishq
Mera naam ishq, tera naam ishq
Mera naam, tera naam
Mera naam ishq

Yeh kaali raat jakad loon
Yeh thanda chaand pakad loon
O.. yeh kaali raat jakad loon
Yeh thanda chaand pakad loon
Din raat ke andheri bhed ka
Rukh mod ke main rakh doon..

On that festival. His laksh put red color on her. Colouring his heart for always with that red colour. RED-colour of their, colour of their hate, colour of their blood, colour of the sindoor which she wears of his name and colour of their destiny.
Ye laal ishq, ye malaal ishq
Ye aib ishq, ye bair ishq (x2)

She- dard to ho rha tha Laksh magar apko pata h jab ek hi jagah par baar baar chot lagti h too dard ka ehsaas khatam ho jata hai.
He- you betayed my trust. Yes, I never loved Swara but when I thinked I loved her then too my heart always choose you to trust. But you broke that trust, broke every faith. You changed Ragini, you changed.

It was out standing, just loved it. Everybody pointed to rags mistakes but i think u were the one who pointed that how difficult it was for her to change her own identity, her own self.
What ever may be the reason but she trusted him always, loved him always, unconditionaly & unlimttedly
Ending was also good
Usualy i dont like tragic ending but in your case i liked it. The way u expressed it was awesome.
