Dear all -
It’s been a little while since Psych-DS work has been active (thank you for bearing with me over a more-difficult-than-usual few months), and I’d like to get us moving toward completing the validator code! As a reminder, the validator serves as the ‘official’ reference of what’s in the Psych-DS specification, and will be used to power both a drag-and-drop interface and an R package.
- The first intermediate goal for this project is to make it possible for multiple people to host the developer code locally for testing, and to identify how much work remains for an initial ‘alpha’ release. This is a task that requires a little more technical knowledge (have a look at the GitHub readme to see what sorts of tools are involved). Psych Science Accelerator is also going to be calling for volunteers, and once we have a sense of who might be available over the next few months we can talk about strategy for working on this!
- The second goal (contingent on the first!) is to schedule a remote hackathon period, during which contributors can help us turn individual specification rules into regular expressions implemented in the validator codebase. This will benefit from involvement from lots of people and should not require any particular background except a willingness to work on writing regular expressions, in addition to plenty of non-coding work as well.
Going forward, if you have emails for this list that are about creation of the validator, please include [DEV] in the subject line (like I did above) - we will also work on migrating to github issues to keep more nitty-gritty developer/coding traffic out of the main listserv.
If you might be able to help with the first task, or if you have any questions/comments about either, please email me at melissa...@gmail.com so we can talk further!
Thank you for all the energy and time you have all put into Psych-DS!
- Melissa Kline
