Just in case you're not already on the broader Psych-DS announce mailing list, below is the email I just sent out - Psych-DS validator is officially live!

Hi everyone,

You're getting this email because you signed up to hear about big announcements from the Psych-DS project.

We have reached a big milestone for Psych-DS: the initial release of the Psych-DS structure has been fully implemented as a validator (essentially a "spellcheck" that determines if a dataset matches the standard), and we're inviting researchers to start using it!

📘 Getting Started Guide

Returning to our roots at the Society for Improving Psychological Science, I’ll also be leading a hands-on **Psych-DS data conversion workshop** at this year’s virtual SIPS conference (May 21–22).

📍 May 22 @ 12:30pm Budapest / 6:30am EDT

Your interest and support have kept this project alive through a slow process (the delays are mine), and I’m thrilled to finally get Psych-DS in front of more people. We're eager to help you and your collaborators start using it, and there are a number of ways you can contribute directly to helping this project succeed:

Try the validator, and let us know if anything is confusing or needs fixing. This is a vital development stage for this software - as more people start to actually use Psych-DS on real datasets, we expect to find edge cases and scenarios that we didn't account for.  Finding these areas for improvement is how we build a robust tool that our communities can use far into the future.

Reach out if you’re part of a community or event where Psych-DS could be useful—tutorials, panels, meetups, classroom settings—we'd love to help out!

Boost Psych-DS on social media and other forums. In particular see this thread on Bluesky - we need your help reposting it and spreading the word!

Plan what comes next! We've had a number of suggestions of things we could do as a community with a widely adopted data standard, and are excited to collaborate with anyone who's interested in designing and building tools around the Psych-DS standard. Join the working group mailing list, or start a conversation on Github.

Thanks so much,

Melissa Kline Struhl
