Hello,

Please feel free to share this with folks or communities who would be interested in these postions.

The Institute for Natural Resources at Oregon State University is hiring field crew members, crew leaders, and team leaders for sagebrush steppe sampling during the 2024 field season. We are looking for people with an interest or experience in plant identification and describing soils. Work begins in April and will continue to August or September. The job involves vegetation and soil sampling using AIM protocols throughout Oregon, Washington, and Northeast California. Field work entails 8-day sampling hitches where we will be camping in the areas we will be working. Crews have 6 days off between hitches.  Crew members travel in work vehicles between their homes and the remote and widespread sample plots on the first and last days of the work hitch. Many crew members live in western and central Oregon as well as more dispersed places throughout the sampling region. In general, there is flexibility on where you can choose to live on the off hitches, provided it is logistically feasible. We are looking for people who are familiar with identifying plants, who can handle the hard work of digging soil pits and vegetation sampling in the sage steppe environment, and are excited by extensive camping in remote, beautiful areas.

We will be hiring be around 20 people under the Bio Tech 1 and 2 posting as crew members, 10 people under the Bio Tech 2 posting as crew leaders, and 8 people under the Bio Tech 3 posting as team leaders. For full position descriptions please check out the linked positions below.

Apply online as soon as possible. We will be conducting interviews as applications come in and begin hiring after the full consideration date on January 31, 2024.  Applications will be accepted until the closing date of April 1, 2024.

Your pay will be based on relevant employment and volunteer experience. All positions are full time seasonal positions that are eligible for benefit packages that include medical, vision, and dental.
