The HD-DVD format is dead, putting an end to the high definition
format war with Toshiba's now defunct format and Sony's victorious Blu-
ray format. So if you have an HDTV and have been waiting
apprehensively to pick a side, you can act fearlessly now!
I, on the other hand, don't have an HDTV, and don't really care too
much about high definition video. My hope is, however, that we will
soon see a similar tipping of the scales in the DVD-A and SACD
debate. I think I'm rooting for DVD-A, how about you guys?

Both formats are pretty much in a coma. New releases are rare and always classical.
Objectively, most would consider DVD-A to be superior, but then objectivity never holds, or should not hold, the final say in the audio realm.
Subjectively, there are two prevailing ideas. The first is that the formats are indistinguishable or near indistinguishable from CD, everything else such as mastering being held equal. The second is that SACD sounds more like vinyl and that DVD-A sounds like CD on steroids.
