I've noticed that Google Groups doesn't seem to let you reply to old
messages. This is unfortunately true, so if you want to reply to an
old message, just use the same "subject" and start the "message" off
with the link to the original post.

Here's what I've found about the time limitation:

"You can't reply to messages older than 60 days. Google Groups is not
the only discussion service to use a time limit for replying to
messages. The probable reason for a time limit is that the longer
the discussion gets the more probable it is that no-one has time or
interest in reading all the messages in the discussion. Also, the
longer the
discussion gets, the more useless it gets."

This is problematic for threads like "INTRODUCTIONS", since it was
designed to be a running list of short bios for new members. Not a
big though - someone just needs to start a new thread also called
"INTRODUCTIONS" and then we can pin it to the top of the list. Of
course, that's only if there's anyone else out there that still wants
to introduce themselves? ... Anyone? Hello? sigh...

Another significant and frustrating limitation of Google Groups is the
inability to create discussion categories (for example, it would be
great to have separate sections for "Section Events", "Acoustics
Discussions", "Electronics Discussions", "Questions", etc.)

Google Groups doesn't currently allow this (http://groups.google.com/
group/Google-Groups-Guide/web/google-groups-faq#createsubgroups), but
their own "Help Forums" use it (http://groups.google.com/group/Google-
Groups-Guide?hl=en), so hopefully we'll see it in the near future.

Despite these limitations, I still think the Google Group forum poses
advantages over the L-PSU-AES Listserv, and I'm encouraging everyone
to use this forum. Help keep it going by being active. Thanks!
