The digital design studio is not a new idea, yet few architects and even
fewer landscape architects have fully embraced the idea that the computer
can replace-or at least seriously challenge-the drafting table in the
design studio. Talking about design is a bit like talking about riding a
bicycle. Until you actually get on the bicycle and try to move through the
world on two wheels, you do not understand how to ride a bicycle.
Likewise design-computing software must be used to be fully understood.
The instructors will introduce an integratedtwo-, three-, and
four-dimensional (walk-through) program, VectorWorks 8.0, which is robust
enough to import large data files, yet simple enough to learn within a few
hours of hands-on training. Also presented will be autodessys form.Z 3.0,
generally agreed to be one of the best PC/MacOS-based three-dimensional
modeling packages. The emphasis is on three-dimensional design rather than
two-dimensional drafting.
