Wed, 10/19 “Campus Eco-Roof Tour.” Meet at the Food For Thought garden
between Smith and Neuberger



Intended focus: Living Machine and Engineered Wetlands
• Papers passed around included info on the Living Machine,
constructed wetlands, and a graph describing an engineered wetlands
plan for PSU
• We watched the “treeverse” video, a short discussion on oak
savannahs followed

Discussion

What are you interested in?
• Gardening, farming, forestry, urban wilderness, forest and
freshwater restoration, the visual art aspect of ecological
restoration, earthworks (etc), general interest in the whole field,
just being involved

Who do you want to work with?
• Fish & Wildlife, JCWC, Friends of Trees, Surfrider, PFTP, METRO
wetlands project (Steven finding out more info)

MORE ACTION
• Have less sit-down meetings—tours, short projects
o Wednesday seems to be good
• Call for individual projects/interests
• Call for officers (people to help with organization)
o Calendar manager, treasurer, website upkeeper, events
planner
• Call for a faculty advisor

o Ideas: native species, perhaps the oak. Poison with a
sprout coming up.

o Project-graduates buy/upkeep oak trees –(3)—1 in urban
PDX, 1 in a savannah, 1 in the world
o Optional donation, or perhaps a cap & gown trade-in

o For a meeting/event, have a REED canyon tour with Zac
Perry
o 14th—Living Machine Tour
o 22nd—No Ivy Day (work as a group or individuals?)
— Salmon spawning surveying 11-2:30
o 26th—Conoit Dam Removal Project (2nd largest!)
o 28th—Eco District (POSI) ($80 for a student to get into
the Summit, plus 4-5 volunteer hours)
o November 6th—Salmon Viewing Eagle Creek
o November 30th—Abstracts due for UERC Symposium
o January—Humanure
o February—UERC Symposium @ PSU
