Thank you for your inquiry on shortage of ARVs especially formulations for children at BMC. I do sympathise with you on the subject matter, taking into account that it is our responsibility to make sure there is uninterrupted supply of these commodities.
Mwanza zone has played its role of ordering these items and making close follow up of delivery from HQ MSD. The LMU/SCMA has an extra role of tracking all over the zonal Health Facilities whereby such items are available in excess thus effect inter facility transfer. This was done ( Mr Mwinyimvua Mohamed confirmed that in the attached email). Indeed, at this junction there is no way you can separate MSD/ LMU in such efforts. In totality the zone played its role as far ARVs availability is concern. Your appreciation is hereby sought.
BMC has already done communication with MOHSW on the same matter, and HQ MSD has received instructions to immediately to delivery whatever is available and the truck already left Dar es Salaam this morning. If everything goes well on Friday, 25 July, 2014 afternoon we will supply BMC with ARVs.
However, it is worth for you to know that the current supply of all ARVs is a Global fund procured (funded and procured) under VPP, so delayed procurement and delivery of ARVs up to MSD HQ it is the responsibility of GF/ NACP not MSD. And hereunder, there is attachment from GF narrating the core reasons for such shortages and late deliveries done to Tanzania.
Best regards,

Subject: RE VERY SEVERE SHORTAGE OF ARVs
Dear JOB/ Stake holders.
I am here sadly to share with you that, BUGANDO MEDICAL CENTRE is currently has very severe shortage of COMBIVIR TABS ADULT, LAMIVUDINE 150mg TABS, TRUVADA TABS,and DUOVIR N PED this is because we do not get our required share from MSD lake zone. This problem has been going on for a long time now, we have been working hard with our fellow SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM TEAM (lake zone) to make sure at least to acquire some amount of the drugs from our nearby facility so as we keep on serving our clients. Seems our effort has reached beyond our capacity. We have been rationing these drugs to our clients for a quite long time,we are now reached a point that we can no longer continue to deliver these drugs to our clients. I would like to berg all the relevant authority to act upon urgently to rescue this crisis. I would like to thank the whole supply chain management system MSD lake zone team for their endless support.
With regards.
MWINYIMVUA MOHAMMED
PHARMACIST - CTC BUGANDO MED. CENTRE.
Hello Mr Tabura, my name is Mercy Minde i work for Baylor Tanzania in the
Lake zone. I would like to bring to your attention issue of pediatric
formulations for ARVs, we are experiencing acute shortage of almost all
ped formulations including Ped Duovir N, Ped Combivir, Ped ABC/3TC and
Kaletra syrup. It is unfortunate that currently we are only able to
dispense meds for maximum of 4 weeks (less with some formulations) we are
really concerned that if drastic measures are not taken we may have
nothing to offer come end of next week.
I have attached here what we ordered and what we received.
Apologies for having to meet you in this circumstances but i really feel
our usual pathways of accessing products aren't smooth.
I hope this matter will be given the deserved priority.
Sincerely;
