The application submission deadline for the upcoming 2010 AMSA Writers' Institute has been extended to May 15, 2010.

Have made your plans for this summer? Maybe you are doing research, studying abroad or starting clinical rotations. You should also consider joining us for a long weekend from July 22 through July 25, 2010 at our first-ever AMSA Writer's Institute offers a creative space for nurture, reflection, learning and writing in a shared- community experience.  Emerging writers, student editors and bloggers are welcome to join us.

Writing in Medicine: Bearing Witness is a three-day writing experience developed for students interested in writing. The Institute is focused on three writing tracks: poetry, prose and journalism. Participants will also learn about writing techniques to nurture their creative expression. The weekend will include writing instruction, workshop time, idea sharing, networking and mentoring. Participants will also write throughout the weekend in facilitated small-groups.   Students participating in the poetry or poetry tracks need not have formal writing experiences, or training but should demonstrate their interest in delving deeper into their own writing whether for publication or self-enrichment. Ideal participants for the journalism track will have prior experience in journalism and/or non-fiction writing, and will therefore be able to bring their own work and connections to enrich the Institute experience. As part of the application process, students will will need to submit an essay or works of poetry.
