I have just the opposite problem, can't make it go away. Tried in both Edge and Chrome to turn night shadow off and set distance to miles, neither setting is saved.

I also cannot get it to display. Using Win 10 and Chrome. I think it went away when Philip changed the map
provider, but I'm no sure about that. Sure wish I could get it back! Any suggestions?

Can you check what is set in the 'display options'?

The other possibility is that WebGL doesn't work on your system (the grayline uses WebGL to calculate the position of the sun and compute the shadow). Check: http://webglreport.com/ and see what it says about your system.

Hi Philip,
Thanks for your response. In display options I have nothing checked. The last four values are the default settings when I installed PSKR.
I checked WebGL and tabs 1 and 2 both say my browser supports it. I did enable the WebGL draft extensions as suggested by WebGL,
restarted Chrome, then rebooted the system. No luck. I will try uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome and report back later.

Again, thanks very much,

My problem is I can't get rid of the night shadow and can't set the distance to miles. If the shadow wasn't so dark I could live with it, but I find it makes seeing anything under the shadow difficult for me, hence my desire to not have it displayed by default

Can't save settings with IE11 or Chrome on Windows7Pro. I followed the link you provided and it says my browser supports WebGL1 but not 2. Until recently I used to be able to change these settings and they would 'stick' from session to session with either browser.

There is no save button so when exiting the settings popup box you have to wonder if your settings are saved when clicking on the X button to close the box. If you hover your mouse over the button it gives no clue as if the action to be taken will "Save and Close" it just says "Close", which in most Windows programs would be a abrupt close WITHOUT saving and no warnings.

I think that I have fixed the problem with the display options not sticking. In particular, the X at the top right is now 'save and close' and it should say this if you hover over it.

That is crazy. On my chrome (same version), that area looks like:

In particular, it looks as though your daytime ocean is *much* darker than mine -- and it is roughly the color of my nighttime ocean.

What OS are you running?

Does it look the same way in IE/Edge? I just tried with the same version of Chrome on Windows 8 and it looked fine. Do other people see this same very dark view? Does it get to better colors if you turn off the night shadow (note that you may have to click the 'Go' button after setting the display option)?

I'd like to understand what is going on here....

Jim, here on my computer (Windows 10, 64 bit) as well as on my Tablet (Android 4.1.4) night shadow works fine. Tried it on my PC with Chrome 69.0.3497.92, Firefox 62.0.2, Edge 42.17134.1.0 and Internet Explorer 11.285.17134.0.
I've observed only the following minor issues:
- With the Internet Explorer night shadow temporarily disappears (for about 0.5 seconds) when mouse cursor is over a station's marker. Works fine with all three other browsers.
- With Edge and Firefox the non-sparkling markers are shown somewhat strange (bigger than the sparkling ones and upper end not fully displayed). It's fine with Chrome and (surprisingly) also Internet Explorer.

Really interesting, Maurice! See the following screnshots how it's getting to appear here on my computer (Windows 10, 64 bit): Even when zoomed out and without any callsign selected I could not reproduce the strange effect you got. Are there any other pages that are incorrectly displayed with your Chrome browser?

For me, looks like that there is something broken with your Chrome installation or your user profile. Logical steps would be: Using Chrome portable for comparison (with default user profile), de-installation and re-installation of Chrome, resetting your user profile on Chrome, or disabling all add-ons.

I agree.  The dark area is totally black with very faint lights from cities.  I have to turn it off to see where DX spots are coming from, thus I no longer know where the grayline is located and I just have to guess.  Again, the dark side is now the black side.  It needs to be much less black, like 50% or so.  Not useful as it is now.  This is a recent occurrence, even after the base map changes.

After the shift-reload a totally new occurrence (see the attached images).  It is not correct for the current time and when I shift the view left or right the "daytime" is displayed in center screen no matter where in the world I have centered.  Each time I click "GO" a different image is revealed. Most odd is #3.  After about 2-3 minutes, the displays in Chrome settle down to solid black, no grayline and impossible to see spot locations.

All are shown in Chrome (all updates), except for #4 which is in Firefox.  The Firefox display it what I used to see in Chrome all along, but not now.

Win10 Pro with all updates.

Yes, I am.  But the card is a dual monitor and the driver is about 8 years old and no longer supported.  However, it does work on the other browsers (which I don't normally use), so that kinda rules out the card.

Possibly so. Mine worked fine a couple of days ago then for some reason on Chrome only stopped. Today it started working again when I removed all the older unsupported AMD ATI Radeon drivers and let Windows install a native driver. Maybe a coincidence. Don't know.

I also experienced the weird totally black night side. Also, if I zoomed in on the map, the day side got more narrow with each zoom click.
I'm running W10 home with all updates, and Chrome 6.9.0.3497.100. Map works perfectly as expected on Microsoft Edge. As with my
earlier problem with no night shade, uninstalling Chrome and reinstalling it fixed the problem...…...at least for right now!

Well, maybe I spoke too soon. It appears that the settings can be saved but they only last as long as the browser session is open. Once I close the browser then start a new session the settings default back to showing the night shadow. I can then go to settings, tick the box to hide the night shadow, then save and close. Once I force a page reload or the page reloads automatically after 5 minutes any changes made to settings are enabled until the browser is closed. Sounds like wherever the settings are being saved is temporary and not retained from session to session.

It tries to store your settings in two places -- the cookies and the localStorage object. Both of these are supposed to persist over browser restart. Do you have any ad blockers or that type of extension?

I disabled all tracking blockers for a few days but no change in behavior or retaining settings. I also tried adding PSKReporter to trusted sites with Always Allow permission set for PSKReporter to save cookies but that has not helped either.

When I look for cookies, I find two for PSKReporter. One expires 7/31/2019 and the other on 11/11/2019.
