Hello,

I'd like to upload reports I'm receiving to the reporter map, but something's not allowing it. Wsjt-x seems to be working, I'm receiving signals and reports, but I'm not visible on the reporter map.

I have the box checked for reporting, and I have allowed the executable access through the windows firewall. I assume that the file that needs access is the main program executable.

Do I need "permission" granted by the owner to upload? I'm using the call of W/SWL/EN61.

It ought to just work. One other person recently discovered that their AV program was causing problems as well.

I don't see any errors in the log for that callsign....

What is your IP address (visiting http://ip4.me to discover it)?

Philip

I'm not using an AV program Philip. I am able to upload "spots" on wsprnet with no problems.

You say you see no errors in the log for my callsign? Does that mean you are receiving my reports? If so, then I'm just not appearing on the map, and I wonder why.
When I do a search for my call on the map page, it reports nothing to me, like I'm "not there".

I see no data from you at all -- not even errors. If you tell me your IP, then I can see if there is anything from your IP....

Can you also try running 'ping report.pskreporter.info' and see if it works....

Thanks

Philip

Sounds like a software or hardware firewall blocking the connection.

All my updates show on the reporter just fine.

If thousands of people can connect and upload data, it seems pretty clear that it is isolated to something on your computer or network.

Understood Scott, that many others connect. I'm not a I.T. guy... I'm an old RF tech, so that's why I'm asking for help with the software end.

If I can't "ping" as Philip mentions... why not?  .. what else to look for? My firewall is directed to let wsjtx.exe connect.

What operating system are you running and what is your firewall?

Windows7 with the standard windows firewall (pc is on the home wi-fi). Btw, my desktop pc (windows 7) can't ping in either, and it's "direct" cable... not going through the wi-fi.

Check your router. Comcast likes to block pings with the firewall in the
router.. Other providers may also.. (Mine was under security)

I am using a motorola surfboard modem on comcast (my own modem) with built in wi-fi.

I don't see anything in my modem config screens about blocking or permitting pings.

Sometimes they refer to pings as icmp packets.

I'm not seeing anything mentioning icmp packets. Perhaps I should call comcast.

As mentioned, I'm uploading "spots" on wsprnet.org with wspr-2 software, so I'm confused why I can't do the same on pskreporter.

Couple of things to try prior to calling Comcast.

Turn your radio and computer off. Then turn your radio back on and then Turn you computer on. With no other applications running, fire up wsjt-x and see if that gets you going.

Another thought is, are you using a time sync program? Something the likes of d4? These modes are very dependent on highly accurate times.

Hope this is helpful.

Yep... tried pwr down/pwr up. I have no problem logging stations at all... many stations show up in the program.

Time is accurate. I correct it before starting the program and use windows time.

Thanks for your ideas.

I have seen nothing from this IP. Can you try doing 'tracert
report.pskreporter.info' and send the output to me....

Other people can ping.....

The result is 30 pings of "request timed out".

Hello...actually didn't catch your name -

Here's the link to Microsoft's instructions on how to use TRACEROUTE:

This article contains an example that shows several lines of text:
Tracing route to 11.1.0.1 over a maximum of 30 hops

   1 2 ms 3 ms 2 ms 157.54.48.1
   2 75 ms 83 ms 88 ms 11.1.0.67
   3 73 ms 79 ms 93 ms 11.1.0.1

   Trace complete.

This is what we need to help you root-cause this problem. I'm guessing that the packets are not leaving your PC, but we need more data to help.

Mike - N8MSA

Hi Mike

My name is Ken. I did as Philip requested (running that command in the dos box). It returned 30 lines of "request timed out".

Hi Ken -

No lines at all? That's usually an indication of a network "stack" (software) issue or a firewall issue. I read that you made WSJT an exception, but have you tried to temporarily turn it off?

You mean not allow it to communicate through the firewall by not adding it as an exception?

Hi Ken -

I'm suggesting to turn off your Windows, or any third-party, firewall temporarily for the purpose of retrying TRACEROUTE.

That's a useful observation; I doubt all of your PCs have some kind of "issue". This might be a good time to call your ISP...

Could it be that since all pc's work through the same modem to get to comcast, its firewall is blocking things? And I have no idea what to look for in there...

Again.. why do I not have a problem uploading reports to wsprnet?

I may have to call comcast and deal with them... (not very high on my list of things I wish to do...hi)

This is very possible...

why do I not have a problem uploading reports to wsprnet?

This is pure speculation, but it is entirely possible that one destination address (and other details e.g. ports) may be blocked by your PC (or ISP), and another may not.

I may have to call comcast and deal with them...

That's what I'm thinking. I had to call Comcast to get them to open the ports needed for the Icom remote-control to work.

Ok... partial resolution of this problem... I'm on the map and uploading data .

The problem was that my cable modem was restricting access to pskreporter. The easy fix was to lower the over-all security level of the modem to "Low" rather than the Medium setting it was at.

This isn't the best solution, but it works for now. I need to learn how to make some sort of exception in the modem configuration for pskreporter and keep the security level at medium.

I'm not a "whiz" at networking, so that may never get done.

Thanks to all for your ideas and time spent with this.

Use the custom level. You can lock down what you need, and leave what you want. It's the same in my Comcast modem..

I don't understand "custom level". I'm using my own Motorola cable modem, not theirs, and don't really know how to add an exception.

Where you changed from Medium to Low, there "should" be a Custom level.
