Hi All,

I need help. I've seen somewhere a site or code or something so that I can redistribute bulk spots for an overlay in a mapping program. Obviously (I think) the PSK Reporter server can't handle masses of traffic, I have a Akamai LINUX server with a lot of spare capacity so I can host this myself.

So, what's the code / solution I'm looking for? I'm sure I've seen references in the past but just can't find them now.

Hi,

Thanks - if the network load is high, would I be expected to run my own MQTT feed, taking data from http://mqtt.pskreporter.info/ ?

I'll play with http://mqtt.pskreporter.info/ just to get used to it.

Tom, M0LTE manages the MQTT broker service, I suggest you dicuss this with him. It's worth remembering that using the mqtt broker has zero impact on the mail pskreporter systems, although there are obvious considerations of network and computing load on the mqtt broker.
Having said that, running a broker is very easy and can be done on small VM's, and it would be a good idea to run your own when/if traffic becomes significant. I'd suggest that you generate a DNS CNAME (alias) for mqtt.pskreporter.info, such as mqtt.simonbrown.com which initially points to mqtt.pskreporter.info and can be switched to your own broker with no impact on users.
In case you missed it, there is a group for discussions on the mqtt service here: https://groups.io/g/pskr-mqtt/

Hi Mike,

Many thanks for this. I'm helped on my Akamai server by another ham who's an amazing Linux system admin so if I do get this implementation up and running he'll be able to help.

If you do use this, Simon, please be sure to use an identifiable client id.

Thanks
Tom

Hi Tom,

Yes, will use an easily identifiable ID, just need to work out how to get client software compiled on Windows. Never used MQTT before.

Tom,

You'll see "G4ELI_TestClient" in action from time to time. I'm using Eclipse Paho, getting a client working was trivial.
  • Wow, the FT8 spots are ferocious!
  • Which software would you recommend to use with Linux as a relay?
  • Where would a relay get data from, you or Phil?

 TIA,

Hi Simon

Please join us over on the dedicated group:

But in brief:

- yes!
- let’s discuss a relay strategy over on the dedicated list (Philip is there too)

Please start a thread over there.

Best wishes
Tom
