It seems that if you upgrade to IOS 18 or Macos 18, then you get Safari version 18. This does not work with the map page on pskreporter. On Macos, you can use either Chrome or Firefox and they should still work. On IOS 18, every browser is just a wrapper around the same system code, so nothing will work.

This is not a subtle failure -- the map page doesn't get to the stage of showing a map with icons on it. On my ipad, the whole browser crashes.

If I can figure out a workaround, I'll let you know.

Does anyone have access to Safari 18.1 preview? If so, then I'd love for you to test using it, and let me know whether that works.

I have added a workaround that (I hope) detects the buggy version of safari and redirects you to a special page (https://pskreporter.info/mac.html) which disables the feature that Apple broke.

I have created the page https://pskreporter.info/safari-bug.html which should continue to exhibit the issue. If somebody with 18.1 developer preview could try that URL and report back, I would be grateful.

I'm not totally convinced that I have the auto-redirect to /mac.html right for just Safari 18. The user-agent strings are rather a mess across ipad, iphone and mac. I realize that the browser vendors are moving away from identifying the exact version of their browsers as they don't want websites to be able to modify behavior based on the version of the browser. However, this seems to be a case that argues the other way.

Conversely, if your browser still crashes, then please go to https://www.whatismybrowser.com/detect/what-http-headers-is-my-browser-sending/ and send me the user agent string.
