Hi,

While running an experiment on PsiTurk, the server that I was hosting on went down due to the computer that I was running from going to sleep. This obviously caused technical difficulties for many people who were never able to complete the HIT.

For these people who could never complete the HIT, the HIT never returned either. So the HIT is "unassignable," but it also hasn't be completed. The money has already been taken from the account to prepay for these hits. I have two questions:

1. How can I get the money back from these HITs that haven't been completed? I'm assuming that the workers who didn't complete the HIT didn't get paid?
2. Is there a way to directly pay these workers for their time? They should be compensated for their time, but I'd rather get the money back for the prepaid HITs and then pay them, if they have in fact not been paid by that prepaid HIT.

Any insight to this would be great. Thanks.

You can use the Whoops y'all experiment from the experiment exchange (https://psiturk.org/ee/Cv4MVqanWeXNmZyqaH8rD9) to pay people who couldn't complete the HIT.

The HITs should eventually return automatically when the maximum duration is exceeded.

By maximum duration, do you mean as long as the HIT is active, or expired? Could I get the money back immediately by disposing of the HIT?

Yes, I think that will work.

Hi, sorry, I've tried to dispose of the HIT, but it won't let me because the HIT is still in the "Unassignable" state and not the "reviewable" state. Is there anyway to force it to the reviewable state?

You need to manually expire the HIT first. http://psiturk.readthedocs.org/en/latest/command_line/hit.html#id3

I have. It still claims it's Unassignable. Does it take any amount of time to process to Reviewable?

Hi!

I have the same issue: two old HIT's that I can't remove. I've tried:

[psiTurk server:on mode:sdbx #HITs:0]$ hit expire --all
[psiTurk server:on mode:sdbx #HITs:0]$ hit dispose --all
Failed to dispose of HIT 3CO05SML7VX2Y49B19A3AOX02780RP. Make sure there are no assignments remaining to be reviewed.
Failed to dispose of HIT 3909MD9T2Z94M4JWIL9OEOLLUSFFEK. Make sure there are no assignments remaining to be reviewed.

Cheers

I have the same problem now. It shows it is Unassignable, I expired it manually. I cannot dispose them because it is not Reviewble:
*** This hit is not 'Reviewable' and so can not be disposed of

You'll have to wait until the outstanding assignments have been either submitted or returned or timed out.
