Hi,

I've recently started using the Psicquic software project for my work, and have found it very useful. During last week I noticed the STRING db was offline (http://www.ebi.ac.uk/Tools/webservices/psicquic/view/main.xhtml?status=exp) and has stayed offline. I was wondering if there was a problem?

 Kindest Regards,
 Colin Mclean.

Hey Colin,

Milan here, I'm in charge of maintaining the STRINGDB PSICQUIC implementation. It's down since it's outdated, string-db is at v10, and the last psicquic index was on v9. The second problem is that we have so much data that the official implementation just can't handle it. So I'll create mi-tab files (one per species) and put them for downl

Hi Milan,

Is the problem with the STRING DB still persisting?
Recently, I was shortly able to access the STRING DB through Cytoscape though. Any idea when it will be up again?

Thanks to everyone for the fantastic work! Keep up the efforts, these platforms are awesome and becoming better!

Kindest regards,
Christian Halter

Hi Christian,

not sure what you mean? The mitab files are available (also on the main website http://string-db.org/cgi/download.pl, not just the beta), and we have a new Cytoscape plugin to access the db http://apps.cytoscape.org/apps/stringapp .

regards,
Milan

Hi Milan,

I found out how it works by now. I meant: how to load a network.

I tried:
"File -> Import -> Network -> Public Databases..." and as "Data Source:" I left the default "Universal Interaction Database Client".
I put in my gene list but in the search results the STRING was greyed out. I saw on the PSICQUIC website that STRING is listed as "offline", so I thought that's why it's not working. But actually the problem was that I just had to select for "Data Source:" "STRING: protein query". Now it works! :)

Thanks for your answer anyways!

Kindest regards,
Chris
