Dear all,

I've just discovered that the download feature of googlecode will be
disabled starting next January
(http://google-opensource.blogspot.it/2013/05/a-change-to-google-code-download-service.html).
As many projects around PSI are hosted on googlecode (e.g. psimi and
psicquic distributions), I'm wondering if the respective developers have
already planed to move the packages to another repository (Google
suggest to add them to a Google Drive account, I personally created a
version of the psimi maker flattener on Github).

best regards,

Arnaud

PS: sorry if you receive this message twice, I'm trying to reach all
concerned developers/users, and I'm aware that most of them are
following more than one list.

Hi Arnaud,

It is a very good question.

For the time being, we created a google drive download for PSICQUIC
reference implementations. All the download links in the PSI website and
google code wiki have been updated to point to the google drive download.

We are seriously thinking of moving to github the psimi/psicquic google
code projects but I will send another e-mail for that as it has to be a
community decision.

If we decide to move to Github, I guess the downloads would be provided
using Github as well.

Cheers,

Marine

GitHub is the industry standard these days, so that would make a lot of sense.

Cheers,

Bruno

hmm... weren't google code considered 'industry standard' at one time ?
there's sadly no guarantee any particular 'free' site/service will last
until next Friday/month/year...

That is the thing with the field! It moves on! Or we would still be using punch cards or something... :)

No guarantees, just probabilities!

I find GitHub to be quite useful.

Not so much for it's base "git" features: Many other tools - like Mercurial - provided distributed source control about the same time that git did.

The genius of github is that it makes coding an essentially social activity. My international efforts at collaborative work are

They took more than $100M of funding, famously not because they needed it, but rather because they wanted to be "more awesome". So, I'm guessing they'll be there for another couple years at least.
