I'm ( finally) getting around to getting my piece figured out for the
Recast Show, and had a couple of questions-if Rick or anyone else can
help me out here with suggestions....
First, I'm a bit confused on how to send the concept proposal. I think
it said something about sending it as a word document. I'm not sure if
I can do that---I usually just send emails.Would that be okay?
( I have an email and call in to JL, but she hasn't gotten back to me
yet, and I wanted to get this thing moving along before I get
distracted by laundry or something...)

Secondly, I was hoping to try a different format. It would be four
15" x 20" thin luan wood panels that are bound together that opens and
reads like a book.
I'm concerned that when hanging with all the panels open it would get
lopsided because of the weight. With my 'test run', it works fine if
somewhat securely attached to the wall. I guess it depends on the
hanging system and if one can be McGiver rigged.
In lieu of hanging, could I provide something to set the book on---
maybe a simple table that I could create to match the book?
Or would there one of those gallery pedestals available?
Ideally, I would like it hanging on the wall.
thanks
george

Hi George,

In answer to your hanging question....

I am awaiting hanging hardware specs from Heinz History Ctr. to
provide for Recast artists. I know that for hanging artwork, they
require 2 "D' rings - simple metal hanging rings you can get at a
frame supplier that will screw onto the back of your piece so it can
be securely suspended by 2 wall hooks. No wiring required. I'm sure
the History Ctr. has pedestals & vitrines (plexi covers) for 3 D items
but I will confirm. You may want to visit the History Ctr, The Soul
Soldiers Exhibit on the 4th floor which is in the same space as our
Recast exhibit to get an idea about how the artwork is hung and the
pedestals there.

Your piece sounds fascinating, something different than a framed
artwork I presume. And I think we could use more 3D items in the show.

hi George,

I can't add anything else to Kathy's response on the framing question.
She certainly has the background in that area. As far as the written
concept, an email to JL will do just fine!

Hey Kathy and Rick
Thanks for responding so quickly...
That will work then, if supported by two rings on either side rather
than from the middle of a wire.
I also decided on using only three panels, making it less cumbersome.

No, they aren't framed- these 'hanging books' are something I've been
experimenting with ...almost approaching them as ninth grade science
fair projects without the Pee Chee folder, and my subject matter for
the show includes a diagram ,map ,etc. that will work with this
presentation.
All put together with Gorilla Tape---the strongest tape on earth.
( and most expensive)

Hopefully the viewer will know to open them.

I'll email the copy to Jamie ,Rick.
Thanks again.
