ISDN Please!
-------------
PSI is installing thousands of ISDN ports throughout
1995. With fully digital 64 Kbps performance (minimally) and
remote diagnostics and integration that no analog modem can
touch, ISDN is the future of Internet dialup access! With the
ability to bond two 64 Kbps channels and compression at the
end of 1995, personal ISDN access will be even more powerful.
has just within the last few weeks benn changed to the end of 1995,
not 1994 as previously advertised.
Of course, all you early adopters should take note of the new intial
costs and rate schedule, which I won't post hear in order to avoid
being accused of too much PSI bashing.
On another note in the same vein, an interesting if somewhat suspect
note from Robert X. Cringley (InfoWorld, May 22, 1995, Page 98)
regarding the arrival of cheap ISDN from the Regional Bell Operating
Companies, and the potenital big hurt that will be applied to certain
Internet Service Providers as a result. 18 month time frame. I
disagree, as there will still be a lot of services which a well
organized ISP can provide to business, such as off-site Web Pages,
direct Internet Connection setup and maintenance, handholding for
newbies, etc. The Bells have never been very good at much beyond
basic plug and play, so there is still a niche. There is another
niche too, but that's a business opportunity I intend to exploit, so
mums the word.
Anyway, ISDN no matter how snappy at 64 KB/S, still doesn't justify
the upfront costs until it is available in Bonded service to use the
entire phone line which is being paid for.
Chow.
