It is clear that the NY Interramp dialup situation has gone from unacceptable
to outrageous over the last two weeks.

The reason is clear. PSI's Pipeline service is using the same PSINET dialup
numbers as Interramp service. And Pipeline is advertising flat rate service
for $19.95 a month.

(See http://www.pipeline.com/ -- the access number link points to
gopher://psi.com:7000/00/numbers.iramp)

I used to tell people to go with Interramp because unlike a tiny local
provider, a national company like PSI wouldn't underprice the service
and make it up by skimping on bandwidth & access lines. It now appears
I was mistaken.

What makes matters worse is that NYNEX local residential service is untimed
to the best of my knowledge. So once you call in, Pipeline is free
and the phone call is free. Why should you ever hang up? Especially if
more than likely you'll get a busy signal next time you call.

If PSI wants to take advantage of its Pipeline customers, it should at least
let us Interramp customers, who pay more, have an Interramp-only access number
or two.
