How does psi probe obtain per session details?

I was poking around some of the JMX and management beans that tomcat offers and I understand how probably 90% of how psi probe collects the data, but what has eluded me is how it collects the connected sessions to specific web apps, remote user ip's etc. Any pointers or hints as to how this works?
