I had a request for the NPH voice files yesterday and discovered that Waze hadn't cleared out some of the other voice packs I'd downloaded yet, so I figured I'd share those and some of the others out in the wild, make it a little easier for iPhone and Android users to deal with and try out. Enjoy!
Then open Waze and select the voice that you replaced its files with the discontinued voice files at Settings-->Sound-->Navigation guidance (for example: if you replaced eng_randy, then select the Randy voice, the name of the folders is the name of the voice in waze's settings)
This is where your Waze sound settings reside. You can toggle the sound alerts on or off here, as well as choose your voice directions. Tap on Voice directions to choose a different voice for navigation.
Probably the most fun part of this: Now you get to choose the voice to give you directions. The options are always changing, as Waze features different celebrities at different times. Right now, you can get navigation directions from Christina Aguilera or Boy George, for example. Or choose the Terminator, a boy band, a '90s pop star, or an '80s aerobics instructor, just to name a few.
You can change the Waze app to use the Christmas theme, for a limited time, and even have Santa or Mrs. Claus be the one to give you voice directions. If that doesn't scream National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2022 for a road trip, I don't know what does.
Waze rotates different celebrity voices at different times. Unfortunately, Morgan Freeman or Yoda voices are not available on the Waze app. However, you can have Waze give you directions using the voices of Terminator, Boy George, Master Chief or Escharum from Halo, Maisie from Sea Beast, Kehlani, Christina Aguilera, or Andy Field, just to name a few.
Felix (member of the K-pop group Stray Kids) has a calming yet engaging voice that could fit well for navigation. English language navigation would have his Australian accent, and he (or another member) could potentially record Korean language navigation as well.
They commissioned a professional recording of the Greek voice prompts, and provided me with a full list of the necessary voice prompts. After deciding with the rest of the Greek crowdsourcing community on how to translate a few of them, I took the project to my friend Paolo Costola over at MacWave Studios in Brescia, Italy.
With the voice prompts ready, a final push on translating the last several hundreds of UI strings on Transifex brought us to July 3rd, 2016, when my voice, along with a fully Greek UI, made it to the smartphones of Greek-speaking Waze users all over the world.
If driving your car is your main form of transportation, then Waze (available for Android and iOS) offers a solid alternative to Apple Maps and Google Maps when it comes to turn-by-turn navigation. But one thing that sets the app apart from the rest is the ability to record new voices for directions.
Open Waze on your phone. If you have an Android device, tap the three horizontal lines in the top left corner of your screen, followed by Settings; iPhone users should tap the My Waze heading at the bottom, and then the cog icon in the top left corner of the interface. Select Voice and sound, then the current voice used for navigation (most likely Waze voice), and finally, Add a voice.
So, next time you need to hit the road, open the map screen on Waze, enter your destination, and your selected voice will guide you there. You can also change the voice mid-drive by tapping the speaker icon next to the estimated time of arrival and choosing then Voice directions.
Love the sound of your own voice? Want to play a prank on a loved one? You can program your voice into Waze and have some fun with it. You can also record the kids and use their voices to guide you around town.
The Waze app is a powerful and convenient navigation app out there, which enables users to navigate through traffic and reach their destinations efficiently. The Waze voice assistant gets you updated with Real-Time Traffic, Accidents, and even works with in-app Notifications.
After that, Your custom #voice has been assigned to the #Waze #assistant, and you can further edit the voice, and even share the #Waze #voice with your friends.
Waze is popular for its celebrity voice packages, which have previously featured stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Neil Patrick Harris and Morgan Freeman, to name a few. Currently, Waze offers voice directions from Christina Aguilera, the Jonas Brothers, Kehlani and more.
It's almost certainly using the Android SpeechRecognizer API rather than its own third-party solution. But, no, there's no way for other apps to trigger this voice search option. Not without some rooted phone madness that automatically opens the app and simulates the button presses or something.
Last month, we reported that Waze was allowing Android users to record your own voice prompts, but we didn't know when the feature would be available on iOS. Yesterday, version 4.26 of the app quietly appeared in the App Store, which allows iOS users to "record your own voice directions to guide you on the road."
To access the voice recording option, go into Waze's advanced settings and hit "Sound & voice." Then tap the "Voice directions" option, which takes you to a screen that offers the option to record a new voice. The system will then lead you through quite a few prompts to record your own directions, so make sure you set aside some time to go through every option. Any prompts that you neglect to record will automatically play Waze's default voice.
You can also easily share your custom voice pack with your friends, family and basically everyone on the internet, because who doesn't want that? Waze provides an handy dandy link you can send out to make it easy as possible.
Red Fraggle is just one of many hilarious features on the Waze app. The navigation app has rolled out a number of fun voices to select from Boy George to PAW Patrol and customizable vehicles to symbolize whether you are a cat or dog lover. It will be fun to see if Red Fraggle's dislike for owning up to her mistakes will come into play if you accidentally make a wrong turn while she's navigating.
While the idea to prank a friend with custom voice navigation telling them to go left when they really should go right may sound funny, always keep safety in mind when recording. Inaccurate or unclear directions on a busy road could cause problems for the driver.
It doesn't get much better than Waze when it comes to navigation apps. Not only does it safely guide you on a route from Point A to Point B, but it also provides multiple route options to avoid roads with tolls or even paths that will skip highways. This intelligent app also factors traffic, construction, and other potential roadblocks. So how does it achieve this? Through crowdsourced information acquired by its many members. What's more, you can easily switch between the different voice options in Waze's navigation app, and we'll show you how.
The app is adding the option of other celebrity voices as well. The addition of Colbert's voice coincides with Colbert taking over hosting duties from David Letterman on CBS' "The Late Show" beginning Sept. 8.
